The castle is part crumbling fortress, part Renaissance buildings. It seemed that the only way to see the inside of the buildings is by guided tour, and these occur in English only once a week on Wednesday at 2pm, according to one of the web...More

We were given the best guided tour we have ever had anywhere by Anne, hope they raise your pay! It was pouring with rain but Anne carried on. The tour was riveting do go on it.

The guide Ann was very good. There was just the 3 of us including a 9 year old and she gave enough detail to keep all of us interested with our being too much. She was able to answer any question we asked. A beautiful...More

This castle is very good because you get to see the medieval side of the castle and how it then expanded during the renaissance. The castle is also small enough that you don't rush from one side to another. We were there with our 3...More

This is preserved to an amazing standard and so well kept it is in quite an incredible state. The grounds are so peaceful and the architecture beautiful. The extensions were added sympathetically which makes it so more interesting to imagine how it all came together....More

Still a pleasure to visit and the old donjon gives rise to some good views of Chateaubriant. Tricky if you can't climb steps although there is plenty else to see.

Visited Chateaubriant castle as have Briant as a family name (does any other reader have this name as well?). Went off season and found it very quiet. So hard to imagine life in these times.
