Jog fall is a famous place and call it mini Niagara Fall. But it’s not that great. We went in peak rainfall time but still it was not that great. If you are close by you can visit this place once.

We planned to visit the jog falls seeing reviews and youtuve videos on how the falls is in good strength. But unfortunately, by the time we planned, a week gad passed by and the water intensity had come down..so it was a regular not so great waterfall. Please check with licals before making any plans to visit the jog falls in its full strength.

Right from school day geography, the Jog falls, is one of the most spoken about waterfall in India. So I wanted to tick it off my list during my recent visit to the region. We hired a cab from Manipal for the ~3.5 hours drive. The road is smooth though more than 50% of the trip was on winding roads. The speciality of this region is that it is scenic & beautiful no matter which direction you go. On the way, after Kundapur, the ocean kisses the highway at Marvante. There are several RoB over pristine backwaters. The drive was overall pleasant. At Jog falls, we were fortunate that the most cleared just in time for us to have good look at the massive falls. One must be clear that you can only view the falls from a distance, not have a bath or swim etc. These nothing much else other than getting a nice snap clicked (at a price of course!!) by one of the many teeming local photographers there. A lot of construction activity was ongoing while we visited, so the place was slushy due to rains. There's a restaurant at the location of the falls which serves lunch from 1 pm. Not too many eateries once you leave the National Highway. Good to plan the timing in advance. Overall it was a nice experience but way below what my imagination was about the great Jog falls

I visited this place on October on my way to Gokarna. There was not much water and found the place just average. Would plan to visit the place during Monsoon to view the falls in its full glory.

Its been twice I visited Jog falls ( 2019 Dec and 2021 Nov ) . In Winter it might not be the best time to visit . And both the time unfortunately not able to get down via stairs . I just only could view the falls.
Timings : I think its between 8AM to 4.45 pm ~ ( In Dec I was stopped entering down because the guard said it take almost an hour to climb down and 1 hour to climb up again so they stop entry around 4.45pm )
you can still allowed to see the view

There are at least two, if not more, view-points to check out Jog Falls, also known by the name Gerosoppa falls or Jogada Gundi:
- Government Circuit House Viewpoint: There is a free parking lot here and there are many small snacks and refreshment stalls. It is not as crowded here as the main viewpoint which is near the KSTDC Mayura Jog Falls hotel, but there are as many monkeys here if not more. The falls are much closer here.
- Main Viewpoint: Has paid-parking, stair-case too climb down and houses KSTDC Hotel Mayura.
Visit both the view points.

Had heavy fog on the day we went, so we could see nothing. But apparently on most days, the weather is clear and a maginificient waterfall is visible especially the times when they open the dam when it's particularly majestic.
Jog Falls is about 110 kms from the nearest proper town called Shimoga which makes it approximately a two-hour drive.
Jog Falls is created by the Sharavathi River dropping 253 m (830 ft), making it the second-highest plunge waterfall in India after the Nohkalikai Falls with a drop of 335 m (1100 ft) in Meghalaya. Jog is one of most visited falls in south India and major tourist destination in Karnataka.
In normal season also you can see lot of crowd to enjoy the roaring beauty of four streams called Raja, Roarer, Rani, Rocket.
No trek or hike is required and you can take your vehicle to the very doorstep of the falls. Washrooms and restaurants are available in the vicinity of the Main Viewpoint.
Main Viewpoint also has a govt run restaurant on the premises, KSTDC Hotel Mayura. They don't serve ice-cream but there is another shop nearby that does. By the way, they don't even serve tea, coffee during lunch hours.
On the Main Viewpoint there are a lot of steps (1400 steps) that you can climb down to the base of the waterfalls. The staircase has railing and galleries on the way down where you can pause and admire the view. They do not allow you to climb down after 5 pm. Make sure you are fit as climbing back up could be tedious.
Takes about 1.5 hours to walk down and 2 to come up. The main attraction is when you reach down and then look up. The spray makes you feel out of the world.
There is entry fee for a car with family is Rs 70 including parking. Masks are mandatory while paying for parking.

There was not much water when we visited in the month of December. So if anyone plans to visit it should be during monsoons or rains. No food places around so better to visit during the day and move out instead of staying overnight
