I really enjoyed this fortress. There is a lot of history here and we were fortunate to have a local guide.

The Fortress is very big and you can wander around freely. Watch out because its very easy to fall down a steep staircase. There is little to no information available about the castle but we still really liked walking beyond the ruins.

We spent about an hour there. We elected NOT to climb the 200+ steps to the top, but it still was well worth the visit.

Having seen numerous other forts, this was nothing special. What is, perhaps, the most important aspect is its history. The fort is double-walled and has nine towers. This medieval structure is well preserved, and three of the towers are at their original height. After parking in the lot, we passed a beautiful rose garden and a statue of a woman... More

Not that much to see. A short walk over a bridge and through a square. Town is nice, but OK on a cool day. Think it is still being restored.

Baba Vida fortress is the main place to visit i Vidin. The fortress is very well preserved and very interesting to look around. A big disadvantage of the attraction is the lack of labels inside. One in a way has to guess each room's purpose. If you have the change, read a little bit in advance about the legends of... More

Excellent place to touch the spirit of old times. Accessible for people with different health condition and age. The view of Danube river from the top is amazing.

This castle is builded from romanian empire, later turkish invdaers is used as prision for slavers. On the very same castle, I use to pay as a child with my friends. Today the castle Baba Vida (Grand mother Vida) is a symbol for the Danube town - Vidin. Interesting fact is, that the town - Vidin, when is established the... More

This fortress is on the Danube River. Am told outdoor concerts are held during the summer. One can see the prison cell and also hangman's section. You can also climb to the top to get a better view of the area. Site is within walking distance to the pedestrian mall.
