Good And bit Developed place as compared to last few years.
It is a Boating point for the Tourists and also has plenty of Eateries and small cafes for Food Lovers .
Must Visit whenever you are visiting here and don't forget to Visit Bhalei Mata Temple if you are here. The temple is just 2kms away.
On top of that you will enjoy traveling those two Kms till the temple.

This is a dam and a lake offers boating. I wouldn’t recommend going specially to this place since you may end up traveling too much & could get tiring.
There are two types of boats - speed boat & normal motor boat, and I found it expensive for the basic experience that it offers.
There is a small eatery inside, Maggi points outside and 2-3 swings for kids.
I regret going especially to Dam - could have spent the day better.

We were on the way from Dalhousie to Khajiyar but the road was closed due to recent snow, hence we decided to proceed to Chamera Dam.
Once we left Banikhet behind around 8 Km further, we drove down into beautiful village of Bathri & Devi Dehara... Enroute to Chamera we were just wishing if we could stay somewhere in this village.
Boating in Chamera Dam was really a great experience, something similar to Boating in a large Okanagan Lake at Kelowana, BC, Canada. Kids too enjoyed this Boat Ride...
On our way back we stopped at Rock Garden at Devi Dehara village for a quick Tea break & yo our surprise the Owner ( Pankaj Phone No. +91 98-82-909999) had 3 Rooms with beautiful view of the mountains & large stream of water just gushing & Roaring along the rooms.
We stayed overnight at this place, which was a very beautiful experience... You can walk up the stream, enjoy the nature at its best, strike a conversation with a local. For food you can walk about a Kilometer to enjoy Typical North Indian Dhaba. Overall a wonderful stopover. Only recommended for those who would like to get lost in nature, no great room facilities at all.

This Dam lies at one end of the breathtakingly beautiful Chamera lake-and they both come as a complete package. The dam is a protected structure and photography is not allowed near it...but allowed a bit farther away

This place is some 25 odd kilometres from Dalhousie. Advice able to go by a taxi or by bus from Banikhet( 6-7 km from Dalhousie). The bus takes nearly 1 and half hour to reach the destination as compared to taxi (half an hour max). Taxi would cost you around 1500 INR from Dalhousie.
The boating point is approx 1 km from the dam and is located the other side of the dam. The vehicles are not allowed to cross over the dam, so they have to travel extra 5 km to come across the other side of the dam.( You can opt to walk over the dam while your taxi comes around.)
The boating point has a little food junction ( 5-10 shops) who offer you Maggi, Lemon juice, Lime Soda, Fruit salad and a few other snacks. One restaurant was also there offering vegetarian food.
Apart from boating, there are a few shops around selling local stuff and a few amusements for children.
Coming to boating, there are two types- Motor boat and speed boat. Motor boat is slow moving boat which would sail for half an hour to fifty minutes according to money you pay (400 INR to 500INR). This is recommended for families and elders.
I opted for speed boat (400 INR for 8 minutes !!!). Initially 8 minutes seem very less but believe me it was worth its money. There is thrill, ad reline rush, water on your face and unbelievable view. The driver made a lot of quick turns and moved the boat in every possible way. At the speed it was quite amazing. Try to stand at the back. The water would splash on your face most of the time. 8 minutes were memorable.

The dam site is between Chamba and Banikhet . to visit the site one has to take a separate route from Bathari. The road is hill road and is fairly winding and narrow it is huge water reservoir created by the chemara dam. The barrage is well protected and the entry to the power house is restricted . If one can get permission to see it he feels proud of our engineers and power projects. The other access to the place s from Chamba on Chamba Tissa Road, the journey is nice and beautiful. Dam site is well kept and maintained. the water is clean and enormous
Some time the boating and water sport may be available. It is modern day marvel created by our country to cater for our needs.
Hats off to the team and planners. One need to spend almost half day there. Have enough petrol or diesel in the car/jeep as it may not be available there.

We were sceptical about a boating trip that our cab driver suggested until we actually went there. The narrow and topsy turvy route made us even more reluctant. However the majestic lake like reservoir nestled amongst lush green mountains made the effort absolutely worth while. The lake is quite large with clear green waters. One can have some interesting times having a boat ride there.
