It was very surprising for me when I found out that Puttaparthi has its own Space theatre and its entry is absolutely free. It runs single show everyday in morning (10am). It runs show in Telgu, English and Hindi. Do find out in advance about show timings and language to avoid disappointment. Space theatre is relatively small than most of the other planetarium. I had watched " Dark Matter" during my visit to Space theatre in English. Good experience for family with children as there is a lot of educational learning pertaining to space, planets, satellites, galaxies and much more. Keep 2 hours with you to enjoy the show and post show walk of the space theatre. They periodically keep changing the movie they air inside the planetarium. I would recommend this to all devotees and tourists visiting Puttaparthi.

Our Planetarium visit in Puttaparthi was very educational and enterntaining. We saw the Hindi version since the English version was not available on the day we went. But my toddlers just loved the show; their eyes lit up with excitement when they saw the stars, planets, and other celestial objects. Very good experience!

Maybe this is just another planetarium. May be i haven't been to a planetarium for ages or maybe it's the first planetarium visit with my kiddo.
Whatever it might be, the environment of the planetarium was just cozy and awesome, which triggered the momentary anticipation of when the show shall begin ... a kiddish feeling awaiting for the the excitement to unfold.
The show (Cosmic Colors from GPLA) takes us through a panoramic journey of the space, exploring and explaining the spectrum of colours along with the what's & why's behind the phenomenon with engrossing audio visuals, making it a delightful & memorable experience.
The seating within the globular dome is made convenient as to experience the show in a semi sleeping position, with a sweeping 180 view, sideways & straight.
It was the shortest 30 mins ever, that made me wish and wonder why is it not long enough!
Kids just love it, my son was captivated & so was i.
A Refreshing visit that makes you stop and wonder about the mystical universe we live in & ponder about the unexplainable and the force behind.

Sri Sathya Sai Space Theatre is a small modern planetarium. Students studying at Sri Sathya Sai Colleges attend regular shows here.
The system employed in the theatre provides a star field of 4054 images, including 88 recognized Constellations and 57 navigational stars, besides globular clusters and open clusters, the Milky Way, the megallanic clouds and nebulae of different types. With the aid of computer control and using 30 special-effect projectors, almost any celestial or metereological observation can be reproduced on the indoor sky. This allows it to be used as an effective educational aid and multimedia facility, in increasing understanding of the basic concepts of Astronomy, Mathematics, Science and allied fields – apart from the sheer wonder of it all!
I personally witnessed the various stages of the Planetarium from foundation to inauguration by Sri Sathya Sai Baba.

Nice place to go with Kids. 30 minute documentary on the constellations, space travel and other star clusters. Big crowds. Shows start at 10.30. Interesting experience if one has not been to a planetarium earlier. Close to the city, and can be clubbed with the musuem which is about opposite to it.

the space theatre has a weekly show which has been made very well to suit the crowds that visit. A little more information on the objects in the ground floor displays would be nice.
