    Amazing day out
Had a fantastic day out to see the Rainforest, the views were breathtaking. Unfortunately our visit coincided with what we were told was one of the worst weather days Cairns had had for years! As such a lot of the Kuranda was closed, as well as the train. However all the staff were amazing, a particular shout out to PJ who was so helpful and picked us up on route! We had a fantastic day out. A must if you are in Cairns!!
Hi Megan, Greetings from the ancient rainforest! We are pleased to hear you had a fantastic day exploring the Wet Tropics World Heritage rainforest with us. On this occasion, we did have a large wet weather cell pass through which stopped the Scenic Railway from operating, but we are happy to hear it did not damped your spirits and you still had a great day. Kuranda is a rainforest village packed with quirky markets, art galleries, restaurants & café's, wildlife parks and more. We look forward to welcoming you back again one day in the future when the sun is shining and you can discover more of the ancient rainforest and Kuranda Village. Regards, Rebecca

Soaring over the oldest rainforest in the world
Highly recommend venturing over the canopy of the oldest rainforest in the world, the Daintree. Ranger Emma’s interpretation was excellent. We loved learning about many plants and their adaptations. The gondola has fantastic long stretches over the rainforest. The viewing area above Barron Falls is stunning.
Hi Diantha, Greetings from the ancient rainforest! We are pleased to hear you enjoyed exploring the Wet Tropics World Heritage area with us and took the opportunity to stop and join a complimentary Ranger Guided Tour at Red Peak to unlock the secrets of this ancient landscape. We will pass your good feedback to our Rangers team. We look forward to welcoming you back again one day in the future to discover more! Regards, Rebecca

    Excellent day trip
We did Skyrail up and Train down. Would do the same again or recommend that way. On the way down with hindsight we wished we had booked the Gold class carriage. Quite a journey back down 1hr and 45mins. Would have been better in the luxury carriage. Only thing I would say is,if you are on the last train back the 3.30pm,if you want a last minute refreshment at the pub close by then know that it shuts, and you are out by 2.45pm,so a bit of a wait about unless you go back up hill. Would it not make sense to close the pub at 3.30 pm also ?. All in all a great day out. Awesome sailing above the rainforest canopy in a gondola.
Greetings from the ancient rainforest Stuart, We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your experience with us gliding smoothly above and through the Wet Tropics World Heritage rainforest. Skyrail Rainforest Cableway and the Scenic Railway are two separate companies which package together to offer guests two different perspectives of the ancient rainforest. There are options during the booking process for guests to upgrade to Gold Class on the railway or Diamond View with Skyrail. Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback and we look forward to welcoming you back again one day in the future. Regards, Rebecca

Good but don’t spend too long at Karuanda
We did the Skyrail up and the scenic railway back down. Firstly I would recommend doing it the other way around and taking the train up and the Skyrail down. Doing the train down you end up listening to the train’s brakes screeching most of the journey which after a while becomes really annoying. Going up would be better. The train journey itself is good - quite long and the carriages don’t have any aircon which when we went made it quite uncomfortable - but the staff handed out guides which you could use as fans. Throughout the train journey there is an audio guide which tells you what to look out for and the history of the railway being built. The Skyrail itself was fun, good clean capsules and all the staff were friendly. There are a couple of stop offs on the way up where you can spend a few minutes exploring (you don’t need long) but a good way to see the rainforest. When you get to the village of Karuanda you don’t need very long there! We ended up booking times which gave us far too long there which became boring. There are lots of overpriced gift shops and a pub (although this stopped serving at 2:30pm which isn’t great when you are booked on the 3:30pm train).

    Stunning views
Stunning views, lots to see an do in the village at the top. We went up on the train and back on the sky rail and would highly recommend. Lots of good food and market finds in the village. Stunning views at the lookout stops. Both the train and sky rail stop for photo ops.

    Stunning views!
Gorgeous scenery. I enjoyed the guided tour, and was glad I attended as I could then recognise more features of the rainforest when in the gondola. I was a bit anxious in the gondola, but I was distracted enough by the views. Would not recommend for anyone with intense fear of heights!

    Over the Rainforest
Despite the rain and fog this was still a beautiful and unique way to see the rainforest. The ride is very comfortable and there is even a stop halfway, where you get off to explore and change over to another cable system. It is so quiet up there too and very smooth. Would love to do it again in fairer weather.
Hi Questovia, Greetings from the ancient rainforest! We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your time exploring the Wet Tropics World Heritage area with us and took the opportunity to stop and discover more at the forest floor of Red Peak and Barron Falls. We love gliding smoothly on the cableway just metres above the rainforest canopy through the mist and clouds, it makes it a more magical experience. We agree, it is very peaceful and a great way to relax and connect with nature. We look forward to welcoming you back again in bright sunny weather for another ancient rainforest experience. Lovely experience
Great experience. Travelling far above the treetops. Commentary was ok. We stopped and got off at both stations to look around. They have built a new platform to view the waterfall and you can see the Kuranda Scenic Railway train across the valley stopped at the same time. Cute little cafe and gift shop at the top and bottom of the ride.
Hi jkak0412, Greetings from the ancient rainforest! We are pleased to hear you had a great experience exploring the Wet Tropics World Heritage area with us, gliding just metres above the rainforest canopy. At Red Peak guests can meander a rainforest boardwalk loop, join a complimentary Ranger Guided Tour and learn the story through evolution in the Rainforest Discovery Zone. Don’t miss this
A great experience & so much fun. Although expensive we opted for diamond class/skip the ques & there big, plus glass bottom cable car for extra viewing. Fantastic views with 2 stops on the way for photo op.
Hi Samrox5, Greetings from the ancient rainforest. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your immersive tropical rainforest experience with us. Diamond View, glass floor gondola, is an exclusive upgrade with only one in ten gondolas having this feature, providing guests with unimpeded views of the canopy below. Diamond View gondolas arrive into the terminals on average every 7 minutes with a sperate boarding queue. It is good to hear you took the opportunity to stop and explore at the forest floor or red Peak and Barron Falls to discover more of this ancient landscape. We look forward to welcoming you back again one day in the future. Regards, Rebecca

Be aware that the railway is currently closed due to the recent cyclone damage. So if you purchase a ticket with the intent to ride the skyrail up and the railway down, you will not presently be able to do so.

Stunning views! We booked through the cruise ship but I'd come back and do it again on our own. It's nice to be able to get off and walk around. It was super hot that day (Esp in Kuranda) but the cableway wasn't too hot. Missed the train but maybe next time!

Greetings from the ancient rainforest, We love hearing you felt like being in Pandora! We have a dedicated area about Avatar in our Rainforest Discovery Zone at Red Peak, after being visited prior to the films being made. Our Audio Guide and Interpretive App even points out a tree which is part of the inspiration for the Avatar Home Tree! Sounds like you have a few reasons to come back again soon! We look forward to welcoming you again. Warm regards, Marni

Beautiful aerial view of the rainforest with the opportunity to meet other travelers and exchange travel recommendations while in the air. Two stops along the way: Beautiful views of the Barron Gorge and a short guided Rainforest Tour with Ash. 2-3 hours in Kuranda is enough time to see all the tourist attractions. LOTS of shopping available there. For non-shoppers, would recommend the Kuranda Koala Gardens and Australian Butterfly Sanctuary. Can easily pack snacks or buy food there. Definitely bring water during those hot days!

Loved it . It was great it well worth it . I suggest and that’s what I should’ve done . Instead of driving up, cos we had to check late to our hotel like 3:00pm so we drove up and saw the village , it’s windy Rd , it’s beautiful but the driver have to keep eye on the Rd at all times , and you won’t see anything,
I suggest park the car at Smithfield at the start of the Skyrail , then go all the way to the village (I won’t spoil yr journey so I won’t say much ) take yr time have lunch in one of the bistro and a nice cold beer , the rest I leave to yr imagination,

Greetings from the rainforest, Thanks for your excellent 5 star review. We are thrilled to hear you loved our experience and have some great tips to share for future travellers. We highly recommend making your way to our Smithfield Terminal (unless staying in the Atherton Tablelands area) to commence your experience, there is ample free parking for all vehicle types with departure times and itineraries to suit your schedule. After commencing the Skyrail experience you will arrive in Kuranda, the village in the rainforest, where visitors can spend time exploring, shopping, dining and much more before returning to conclude your ancient rainforest experience. Thanks for sharing these great tips and we hope to welcome you back again soon. Kindest regards, Marni Cadd

The sky rail is definitely worth doing. That said - I highly recommend SKIPPING the “Diamond carriage” experience. The Diamond carriage are the gondolas with mostly a glass floor (in the middle portion). While this sounds like a cool idea, basically 1/3 to a 1/2 of the diamond glass-bottom carriages were out of commission on 2 of the three gondola legs. And honestly, I don’t think most people spend much time looking directly downwards as the view is much better forward or backwards.

The other annoying thing is the staff don’t seem to be enjoying their job too much and didn’t bother mentioning that 1/2 the carriages are out of commission so you show up at 8:45 and wait almost 45 min (when our reservation was at 9) and finally had to ask the staff why there were no gondolas for us. When prompted, they explained the glass bottom ones were partially out of commission and said it would be 5-7 min which turned into a 1/2 hour (& it’s hard to gauge yourself cuz the gondola numbers are not always in order).

Then same thing on the third leg of the gondola but we wised up and asked if the glass bottom gondolas were working and they said basically no - so we just took a regular one.

So to make a short story long - SKIP the glass bottom, save your $ and enjoy the spectacular view from the regular gondolas!

Thank you for visiting the ancient rainforest recently. We are glad to hear that Skyrail is great! We are sorry however to hear of your disappointment with our Diamond View experience. We have shared your concerns with our Cableway Operations and Senior Management Team, who have offered some great insights we would like to share with you and any future guests considering the Diamond View upgrade. The upgrade to Diamond View gondola includes a glass floor, offering 360-degree views of the rainforest around you. Please know that much like any attraction we undertake periodic planned maintenance throughout our entire experience, including our gondolas (both our standard and Diamond View), and on any given day will remove up to 2-3 gondolas from service. However, we endeavour to keep the gondola numbers in the correct order when arriving at our Stations and Terminals. When Diamond View gondolas are undergoing their routine maintenance, we reduce the availability to book this experience, hence reducing the number of guests awaiting to depart. We also space them out throughout the cableway to reduce wait times where possible. In addition to this we kindly ask guests to share gondolas to further eliminate extended waiting times. (Please note: when booking Diamond View, it is booked on a per seat basis up to 5 guests.) Again, we are sorry on this occasion that the Diamond View experience did not meet your expectations. Our Management Team has taken on your concerns, and we appreciate your review as it allows us the opportunity to reflect on the services that we provide, as we strive to offer the very best rainforest experience to all of our guests. Kindest regards, Marni Cadd

The water was still raging down the waterfall given it was the wet season and after cyclone jasper. I would be disappointed in the view of the waterfall in dry season. Make sure you get off at each stop and do a tour at red peak to learn more about the rain forest. Kuranda itself was fall of tacky souvenirs but lunch was great at the Kuranda hotel, reasonably priced for families.

Hi Joanne, It has been a spectacular time to see the mighty Barron Falls in flood lately, and it certainly puts on a show in our summer months. However, we are lucky to experience a tropical climate here in the ancient rainforest with rain falling year round and the view of the Barron river and falls is impressive in any season. Thanks for mentioning our Ranger Guided Tour at Red Peak, these are included in the experience and really do offer a greater insight into the stories of the rainforest and a deeper understanding of the environment as told by our Rangers. Thanks for sharing your amazing experience with us and we look forward to welcoming you back again. Kindest regards, Marni Cadd

A must do activity! We paid for the transfers from our hotel so made for an easy day.
Great stops on the way up - we had planned to railway down originally but due to the track damage did the Skyrail both ways. Beautiful views, friendly staff, app was a cool addition. The town is looking run down and lots of empty stalls, shops but enjoyed our few hours there!

So so much better than I had hoped. Very well organized, super clean, enjoyed all the stops. Being above the rainforest is such a great experience. Loved that they provided giant umbrellas (except at Kuranda) which made it so nice. The village itself was a bit rundown and touristy but the Skyrail was amazing.

Hi Andi, Greetings from the ancient rainforest. We are pleased to hear your experience with us exceeded expectations on this occasion. Skyrail is an immersive Wet Tropics World Heritage area experience. At Red Peak guests can meander a rainforest boardwalk loop to the lookout, join a complimentary Ranger Guided Tour to unlock the secrets of this ancient landscape, and learn the story through evolution in the Rainforest Discovery Zone. Due to the cyclone in December the railway was not operational, so we did the Skyrail both to and from Kuranda.

There was a little queuing but not that much, the systems in place seemed good and the staff are certainly pro active and well trained, also very friendly.

Our two kids had not been on a cable car before, only chair lifts, so they really enjoyed the experience. The views are amazing throughout the journey, so many photo opportunities.

It was good that it was broken into three sections, although the rainforest walk was very short.

Please note that if you are going to walk back to the Skyrail along the river the footpath was washed away during the cyclone, we found out the hard way :)

Hi EngSwe, Greetings from the ancient rainforest. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your ancient rainforest experience with us. The Scenic Railway and Skyrail is one of our most popular booked packages on our official website and provides guests with two different perspectives of the Wet Tropics World Heritage area. During peak periods and school holidays there may be a short waiting time to board the gondolas at our Terminals and Mid-Stations. We recommend allowing 90 minutes for a one-way experience with time to stop and explore all the Wet Tropics World Heritage area has to offer at Red Peak and Barron Falls. At Red Peak guests can meander a rainforest boardwalk loop to the lookout, join a complimentary Ranger Guided Tour to unlock the secrets of this ancient landscape, and learn the story through evolution in the Rainforest Discovery Zone. At Barron Falls guests can stroll another boardwalk loop leading to The Edge Lookout where they can enjoy panoramic views of the mighty Barron Falls and deep gorge below, or discover the rainforests rich biodiversity in the Interpretive Centre. Thank you for noting the river walkway, in Kuranda Village, has been washed away slightly after Tropical Cyclone Jasper. This is a Mareeba Shire public walkway which follows the riverside around the village. We look forward to welcoming you back again one day in the future. Regards, Rebecca

Fantastic experience and way to get to historic Kuranda for a day trip. The skyrail offers stunning and unique views over the rainforest canopy including Barron Falls. Free app download also includes commentary. You can stop off at two places on the way to Kuranda to explore some of the rainforest with excellent and informative displays and tours on offer.
