It is NOT a tourist place. There are no restaurants or eatery nearby. It is open for public only on Saturday and one should reach there by 6 PM. Entry is permitted only after 6.45 PM and till then you have to hang around near the gate. Once you enter, you have to Que up for only one telescope which is open for public. It all depends upon your luck what can be viewed from there on a specific day for eg we were lucky to watch Jupiter with its two moon. Besides that the place is geographically located in such a place where you can have a treat to watch stars with bare eyes as well. We hired cab from Vellore which is approx 70KM and the route followed was vellore-goldentemple- allangayam-jamnamarthur-kavalur. If you want to stay there for a night pls explore the same on the site and take necessary permissions before heading for Kavalur. Good Luck !!

The kavalur Observatory is situated amidst beautiful forest range. On a clear night you can have an excellent vision of the planetary bodies in our galaxy. The Observatory is open for public only on Saturdays.

This observatory is approximately 10 kms from the nearby village of Jamunamarathur. Though the observatory is praised for its largest telescope, public viewing is restricted to a 6" telescope through which you can never experience the effect of star-gazing.
Observatory is open for Public only on Saturdays after 6.30 PM. No entry fees, you will be requested to sign in a visitor's logbook. This place attracts lot of local public and you can well expect a long queue to view a light dot through the lens. The plus is you can enjoy the star clusters with your naked eye (since the place is atop a hill and zero light pollution is maintained).
The bigger telescope is meant only for researchers who come with prior permission. Visit if you are in the locality and have time to spare, this place is well praised by the locals.

This observatory is located in a beautful forest . Unfortunately it's not maintained but if you get a chance for star gazing , the experience would be really great .
