About
Kabini forest reserve is one of the best wildlife destination in Karnataka mainly because of its accessibility, rich green vegetation, water body and possibility of the animal spotting like herds of Elephants, Jaguar, Tiger and Black Leopard. An eighty km drive from Mysore or 205 kms drive from Bengaluru makes the accessibility much more easier for people from Karanataka and people from Kerala

We went in our car through the Nagarhole national park (forest) from east (Metikuppe) to east (Kuppa) which was very good experience.
There are lot of deer in groups, wild pig, monkeys, peacock and other birds on the way.
Suddenly a male & a female elephant with small elephant was standing on the way. We got panicked and waited. After waiting for 15 minutes, it moved away. It was nice expeience.
Pl remember, the Entry gate will be closed from 6 pm to 6 am. The vehicle entering the forest should leave the forest within 40 minutes. No stopping is allowed.
If we are booking for jungle safari, PL AVOID 4.30 to 6 pm during April, since heavy rain is expected in the evening hours in April

Kabini was a good experience, I was able to book a week before, the staff were very friendly and accommodating, food was great and there was a variety, my accommodation was clean and well kept, Kabini had bilingual tour guides that could speak English which was great.

I had only booked for one night (due to availability) and unfortunately I was unlucky and didn't see any tigers or leopards, so personally I found the price quite expensive, nevertheless that is down to personal opinion and it was lovely seeing the animals I did see. If you were to book, I'd recommend booking for more than one night.

I visited kabini in the month of December, it was such a wonderful trip where me and family enjoyed it thoroughly. We even went for the safari in the morning and it was a great pleasure to spot the tigers on the way. Thank you kabini trip advisor for your support, we had the most remarkable family tour.

I have been visiting Kabini for jungle safari for last 10+ years atleast once a year during summer. Its a wonderful reserve to look out for fantastic small and large animals and birds of prey being one the most premium and popular reserves one can visit in India.

However, for last couple of years Forest Department has changed some rules which makes unworthy of the time and money, I would like to spend visiting again. Two zone restrictions implemented few years back, without expanding the tourist zone in the jungle makes a wildlife lover cringe. With bifurcation of zones and restrictions implement of one vehicle to move in one zone for 3 hours seems to be 'getting greedy' by Department. Now, each zone doesn't have sufficient area left for vehicles to move around for safari duration, hence you end up circling same route not less than 5-6 times in circles and even driver/ naturalist seems to be frustrated. Second point is the high fees implemented for cameras, which is highest ever I have seen not only India but compared to some of the best safari locations in the world.
Too commercial and unsatisfying for a wild life lover. Now, its more like a family outing with non-serious tourists and family loading the vehicles.
Needs some reconsideration by Forest Department on their policies for this beautiful tiger reserve!

Mixed opinions on this one. We stayed at the Serai Kabini (lovely waterside collection of 20 cottages with great staff) and the safaris - boat or land, were included in our package. We had various options - land safari in early morning (6.00am) or mid afternoon at 3.00 plus afternoon boat safari. Either way, there were approx 20 people with us and it was pot luck on the fellow travellers. If you had young children, understandably they would get restless and noisy, not ideal if you’re hoping to see why animals. At the other extreme, there were enthusiasts with camouflage type clothing and half metre long camera lenses!
We tried all 3 safari types. We were probably most successful on the boat, as we saw a family of elephants bathing from close up, a Tusker feeding alone and a large crocodile plus a variety of birds. The land safaris were less successful - Indian bison (Gaur) plus calves, wild dogs, lots of deer and some birds.
Sitting in both bus and the boat could not be described as comfortable....like a 3 hour flight in economy and not being allowed to leave your seat for the whole time, not ideal if you’re over 6’ tall!
The guide was knowledgeable, a good ‘spotter’ and obviously did all he could to keep expectation high. I’m certainly not blaming him or the driver for not seeing much wildlife.
If I was going again, I’d certainly pay the extra for a smaller vehicle (Max 8 people).
Also, with so many noisy diesel vehicles driving around, it’s little wonder that we see so few animals. I worry the area is being oversaturated.
Difficult to rate this as I’m sure if we’d had good tiger viewing or black leopard I’d have been more enthusiastic. But in reality, I can’t say this was much above ‘average’ so that means 3*s

Wow! would be an understatement.

Great forest safari that is best covered in a Jeep (booking through your resort or Jungle Lodges & Resorts (JLR) or nagarholetigerreserve.com (only buses).

Probably offers the best chance for sighting the big cats. Was lucky in the 5th year of visiting Tiger reserves - sighted a leopard, a tiger, tuskers & elephants, wild boars, sambar, and spotted deer and so on.

The morning journey was memorable because of the mist and cold weather. All in all a great place for wild life lovers.

Costs are a little on the higher side.

Kudos to two of the drivers who drove us. Mind boggling agility and vehicle control.

When it comes to Wildlife Safari, please do bear in mind that, what we pay is for the safari /forest tour by bus/Jeep. Bonus would be animal sighting. Kabini is one of those places that never disappointed me in my visits to the place. From being the birds, to animals. I am glad I have been here a plenty of times &wouldn't deny any opportunity to be there anytime.

The best time of the year for animal sighting would be Jan-May. However, visiting the forests anytime earlier comes with its own advantages and disadvantages. Advantages being, a lot of animals/birds like the mongoose can be predominantly seen in the monsoon months close to the tracks. Tiger/leopard cubs, elephant & wild buffalo Calf, Deer calves can be seen during mostly during the monsoon.
In the dry months, animals mostly come out in search of water and spotting them then is easier.

Took the morning safari. Very disappointing as the authorities did not reveal that there are two zones A and B and each caters to different needs. Zone A for tiger sighting and B for elephants and possibly other wild life. We did not sight any tigers ( not the organizers fault). However, they did not give us time to take photos of some wild life we saw. Plenty of deer and a few monkeys were sighted.

Team was excellent. They charge 900 per head for bus safari, and guided me a lot for stay and travel. It's a govt safari and the staff are so good to try maximum to spot us a wild animal. 2.5 hrs safari into the jungle is truly a memorable one. I strongly suggest this place if you are into wild life safari.
