Toka Jone Monument

At the centre of Lushnje at Sheshi i Komitetit (Committee Plaza) is a large public plaza near the city hall,and in one corner is the large and striking Toha Jone or "Our Land" monument. It is an impressive example of Albanian Socialist Realist art and commands a strong presence in the attractive setting in the plaza with the surrounding buildings as a backdrop. It seems to be here because of the importance Lushnje played in the formation of the early government of the new state of Albania since in 1920 a major a congress convened here to determine the future and character of the new government.

It is certainly worth at least a quick look on a drive through town, which is right on the road between Berat and Tirana or Durres. It is easy to reach and those who are interested in such thigns will certainly find it rewarding. It seems to be one of the largest and most significant Socialist Realist monuments in the country outside of Tirana.
