This great little award-winning and family-friendly Museum contains two fun and fact-packed biographical galleries, the fantabulous interactive Story Centre and a sunny courtyard. Situated in Great Missenden where Roald Dahl lived for over 36 years, it was created as a home for the author’s archive (which visitors can see on our regular tours) and as a place to inspire creativity and a love of reading in children, about which Roald Dahl was passionate.

4 adults, 4 children (10, 9, 7, 5). Something of interest for everyone. Lots of hands on activities and a great range of information and insight into Dahl's life. The leaflet we found said a visit typically lasts 90 mins. but we were there about 2 hrs. and a couple of the adults with us could have spent much longer.... More

My 6 year old daughter chose this for her birthday treat. She had a wonderful time & we loved seeing her engaging with all she found in front of her. She was inspired by her visit & has decided to write a story called Molly & the Massive Pumpkin! We all loved measuring ourselves, and the Going Solo gallery was... More

This museum is like a snap shot in time during his life, also it seems his life while writing, was in a state of suspended animation for 35 years writing in a hut. Great for inspiring children and adults alike, this historic place is wonderfully preserved for the generations. The cafe looked good and had picnic tables provided. Half a... More

Just a quick review to thank the museum for providing such a lovely venue to enjoy Roald Dahl's writing and story. Yes, it could be bigger and more dense in terms of information but we found it perfect for two relatively young children. Some of the displays stood out for us and will leave you to find your own when... More

Had a lovely visit to the museum, my 7yr old daughter had been going on about visiting the place for months so took her for a birthday surprise. She loved as did we and the amazing weather helped, to go on the village walk and through the countryside to see what influenced the great man. Worth a visit avoid during... More

We added this to our list of places we wanted to visit because my 10 year old is a big Roald Dahl fan. She LOVED this museum, and learning more about her favorite author. The rest of us thought this was just ok, but we knew this musuem wasn't designed for us (adults). The kids loved seeing the height wall... More

We visited on Saturday afternoon and had a fun and creative time. The kids were really inspired by the exhibits. There were plenty of interactive games to play. Not too big or complicated and keeps the attention of the kids for approx an hour.

As creative writers we thought it would be interesting to visit the Ronald Dahl museum. There is a lot of reading but not much hands on. Would be interesting perhaps for over 9/10 year olds though there were school trips of younger children there. We were disappointed as very little on his adult works. There is a cafe, well presented... More

Give yourself plenty of time to enjoy this gem! I am impressed by the amount of activity, information and fun that is crammed into such a small space. The museum is housed in a relatively small building arranged around a courtyard, every part is filled with activities based on Roald Dahls life. It has information and exhibits to enthral Dahl... It is a difficult balance to keep small children entertained whilst the adults were trying to read the many snippets of text on display. The museum is quite small, there is a lot to read and whilst there were story sessions for children, they may have preferred more audio / visual displays.
