This great little award-winning and family-friendly Museum contains two fun and fact-packed biographical galleries, the fantabulous interactive Story Centre and a sunny courtyard. Situated in Great Missenden where Roald Dahl lived for over 36 years, it was created as a home for the author’s archive (which visitors can see on our regular tours) and as a place to inspire creativity and a love of reading in children, about which Roald Dahl was passionate.

It was an interesting visit, to learn a bit more about Roald. Lots of reading, stories for children.

It is a difficult balance to keep small children entertained whilst the adults were trying to read the many snippets of text on display. The museum is quite small, there is a lot... read more

As creative writers we thought it would be interesting to visit the Ronald Dahl museum. There is a lot of reading but not much hands on. Would be interesting perhaps for over 9/10 year olds though there were school trips of younger children there. We were disappointed as very little on his adult works. There is a cafe, well presented... More

Give yourself plenty of time to enjoy this gem! I am impressed by the amount of activity, information and fun that is crammed into such a small space. The museum is housed in a relatively small building arranged around a courtyard, every part is filled with activities based on Roald Dahls life. It has information and exhibits to enthral Dahl... It is a difficult balance to keep small children entertained whilst the adults were trying to read the many snippets of text on display. The museum is quite small, there is a lot to read and whilst there were story sessions for children, they may have preferred more audio / visual displays.

Inexpensive entry, didn't book, it was half term but got in ok. Story telling Sam was absolutely brilliant 😀😀 Cafe tiny but weather ok for eating outside. Drinks & cake nice, reasonable prices. Gift shop reasonable and lots of choice. Fun kids activities and dressing up. Really enjoyed ourselves 😀😀

This was a lot smaller than I expected. Took my children less than two hours to do the whole place. Family ticket cost £21 which seemed reasonable but only really provided 2 hours worth of Roald Dahl fun. That said the exhibits were well thought out and engaging. We had fun but wished there was more to do. The gift... More

Had been meaning to visit for years and finally got there one afternoon in August 2016. Not too busy and not a huge place but very interesting if you are a Roald Dahl fan. So interesting to read and items from his life, especially the writing hut and his chair. There were some activities going on for younger children which... More

Went with my twin 8 year old boys. Plenty to do and see. Went off for lunch after an hour then came back. Busy in half term but not horrendous. Suitable for younger and older children too. Only complaint was limited parking in the village to cater for the many visitors.

Dear Beth K, Thanks so much for your feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit to the Museum and that there was plenty to do and see. As you say we can get busy during half-term, but I'm glad this didn't seem to impact on your visit. We do limit numbers at busy times and stagger entry times throughout the... More

Its best if the kids can read relatively well to get the best out of this, Whilst it isnt the biggest of places, there are activities such as walking tours, readings and hands on crafting that make it worth a visit. The staff are great as well

We visited the museum as a family as my 3 children and I are all huge Roald Dahl fans. We travelled for an hour and a half to get there. The museum was easy to find and we were lucky to find a parking space in the village car park. It is a lovely, charming place and the entry fee... More

Dear Bucketandspader, Many thanks for your review and for your contructive feedback. I'm glad you and your family enjoyed many aspects of your visit such as Roald Dahl's writing hut - the interior of which has been moved from Roald Dahl's garden into the Museum - and the cakes in Cafe Twit. Thanks too for your suggestions and ideas, we're... More

£21 for a family ticket, so not badly priced. 3 rooms of info, 1 about him being a boy, 1 about him going to war then a room where you can re arrange some word cards to make silly a sentence..... that's it. Lots of his books lieing around to read. All nicely done, just no where near enough. A... More
