We went on the evening safari and saw very little, some deer, peacocks, with the elephants and bison hiding in the bush with no clear view.
Had it not been for the drove back to the hotel the safari would have rated lower and I understand it is all the luck of the draw.
On the return to the hotel having dropped the other passengers off we finally got to see some elephants very close to the road as well as a couple of bears, now difficult to photograph because of the fading light.
A friend on the trip will no doubt be singing the reserves praise as she booked a 6:30 safari the following morning and got to see the elusive tiger with cub.
Just the luck of the draw

Our Group of 65 visited this place in July 2023. We had booked the cottages and dormitory for our stay. Their canteen is located in the same premises and they serve simple food. The cottages are comfortable and if you are lucky, you can have a visit by a leopard! Lots of deer roam nearby.
If you stay in the premises, a discount of Rs 300 is given for the safari ride. The safari ride is of around 60-70 minutes and normally deer, peacock, elephants can be seen. The tigers are seen by the lucky few.

We booked a gypsy/camper online for the 2:30 pm safari from the official website. This was just a personal preference. Depending on availability, you can choose to book the group bus/van too which is cheaper. The website is not very good. It had glitches that had us worried. We didn’t receive any email/sms confirming our booking. And for two days after that, we were unable to even login and retrieve our booking details. Thankfully, somehow the issue seemed to have been resolved and we managed to save and print our booking information before the safari.
The safari started sharp on time. Be prepared for a bumpy ride. The views of the forest were refreshing and soothing to our jaded city eyes. We saw 4 elephants, a herd of 7-8 indian gaur, lots of spotted deer, some sambhar deer too, couple of peacocks, an owl and a wild boar. We were unlucky as we just missed sighting a leopard. To summarise: this is not a zoo but a sanctuary. So one should set their expectations accordingly and just enjoy the wild untamed forest

We visited this tiger reserve on 27th Oct early morning Safari in a canter/bus. After the safari , which was for approximately 2 hrs , we were sorely disappointed. The reason is because we got to know from the driver of the Canter that there are only 12 tigers and some leopards in the safari area which was huge and rest of the approximately 100 tigers and 150 leopards are in the core area which is out of limits for general public. As usual we got to see deers, reindeers, bisons, alleged pug marks of tiger and an elephant.
And to add to our agony, the Bandipur tiger reserve online booking site was unoperational for the last month or so and hence we had to book safari through our resort and they charged us a BOMB.

Not worth the time and effort, buses are rattly, zypsy has to be booked in advance(48 hours), saw very few animals like deer, elephant, bison. One gets to see more deer on road side than to travel inside the bumpy ride of jungle. The guides are useless they don’t speak a word, that makes u wonder why they have suddenly stopped or why r they reversing or why they are suddenly driving Iike maniacs. In the end disappointed

Forest safari experience was good as we got to see many animals including leapord. The issue is with stay. We had booked vanashree government cottage online. It was extremely dirty full of cobwebs, ants and unhygienic washrooms . The fan was also not functional. The place is beautiful with deers sitting at night in campus but no efforts been taken to maintain basic cleanliness. So carry your own blanket, towels and broom 😂😂 to clean if you wish to stay inside.

The Safari experience itself was great, we got a Jeep with some difficulty -simply not enough Jeeps available. This becomes a constraint especially under the COVID Circumstances if one prefers to not travel in an 18 seater with no social distancing at all. Given the Safari is only provided by Forrest Govt service and no private safaris allowed, the no of Jeeps needs to be increased at least to cater to the demand.
Also, the ticket counter/front office staff could do with some customer service attitude. Their approach seems to be this is 'take it or leave it' after all we are paying customers. They are simply not even open to answering a question or two. Lastly the website they have to do online reservation simply doesn't work.
But once you get through these initial challenges, the safari itself is well worth it and we enjoyed it a lot.

Please do not visit this park, they open only early morning and after lunch, we arrived at 12:00 and waited 2 hours until the bus leave, we wanted to join the jeep, sharing the fee with other two people, but this man Nagaraj denied us because he wanted only two people on the jeep to gain more money, he discriminates very bad deaf people as us and please be careful with this park. Do not hesitate to inform before as in google information about location are wrong!

The safari by bus is not very beautiful and is crowded; it is normal, but some animals appear on the street and then go back inside their habitat. An advice, you can still watch animals on the street to Ooty, going with a public transport bus and the safari is free for you. Please remove Mr. Nagaraj from his work due to the discrimination to deaf people!

MY RATING IS FOR THE SERVICE NOT THE JUNGLE.

The jungle is dense and lovely, with a decent amount of wildlife to be seen. Spotting the tiger is a matter of luck, which shouldnt ruin the experience of driving through the jungle. However what made it bad was the facility, the jeeps and the guide were all poor. The quality of the jeeps DO NOT justify the price being paid for them, they are loud and feel like they will break apart any moment. The guides are unaware, new and almost not interested. In many cases we were doing the spotting and showing him.

They have a long long way to go before the experience is worth the cost of the service we are paying. But if you love a good jungle, Bandipur is a great one.

Staff behaviour is very bad. Just because it is run by Govt, doesn’t mean the staff is above everyone else. Since I am kannadiga and a son of Govt officer, I can communicate and sometimes in higher voice too so that they fall in line. But for people outside Karnataka and to other common man, the experience is not pleasant. Keeping this aside, the forest is poorly maintained. The vehicle track is extremely bumpy. The vehicles do not have proper suspension. Better go for safari with those private resorts like Windflower. The experience would be pleasant
