Most people focus their visit on the Badami Caves, so the Badami Fort was a quiet visit when I was there. The temples are stunningly set atop the hills. The views are incredible, looking over the city, the Badami Caves and the lakeside temple. It is also not a tiring climb compared to many other forts in India—a true hidden gem!

Basically badami is famous for its cave .but along with that badami fort also good tourist spot but people ignore it .i will tell you it is a short trek of 1.5 hour and very pleasant in morning time.fort consist of temples and few of them are accessible . Whole badami city can be visible from top of the fort.

Way to upside of fort is between big rocks which will provide shadow during trek and amazing experience.

Parking-
Parking for four wheeler not available at fort.mainly there no proper road for four wheeler to the fort .you need to park the vehicle at parking lot of badami cave and from that start trek to fort .

Best time to visit-
Winter is best time to visit and specially in the morning.

Food -
No food or cold drink or water available on the fort so make sure you will have impale Water with you.

Attraction near to fort-

1)Bhuthnath temple
2) Augustya lake
3) Archologycal museum.

Badami is known for its Historic period monuments . The Badami circuit comprising Badami caves, Pattadackal , Aihole , and Mahakuta is an excellent destination to explore temple architecture amidst the cultural ambiance of the landscape . Once the Badami caves were also part of the Fortification. It is advisable to explore the Fort after the caves. You can enjoy sunrise from the caves atop of the Fort hill. An afternoon visit to Fort and Bhoothanath group of temples is a wise option to see sunset from the Fort. After a walk through the Gali you can reach the shore of Agasthya lake . Go straight to explore Bhoothnath temples, caves ect to the south end. Then take tickets to the fort and start hiking to Upper Shivalaya . Malegatti Shivalaya is a rare piece of work people usually avoid, but worth to visit. After sunset view from Upper shivalaya one , go further east and walk downhill through Hanuman temple to the lake side to finish the trail before darkness

The Badami fort is located opposite the hill on which the rock cut temples have been made. The trek up the fort is quiet tough however the entire climb is quiet interesting with few ancient temples en route. It must be one of the oldest forts in India and is definetly not to be missed when one is in Badami.

We then went around the hillock and sited few more sculptures on the way. We climbed up the unlaid path way, leading to Hanuman temple and then above for the view of the whole place of Badami. Continuing the walk, we reached Upper Shivalaya - a small Shiva temple atop of the hillock. We started the descent and spotted granaries, beautiful walkways amidst the hillock, a fort like structure, lower Shivalaya temple and few more sculptures. The path led us down to ASI museum which we did not visit citing time and moved to parking area by walk.

On the way back from the fort, finally we found a path leading to the twin towers but it was very narrow and steep. The path is through between two rocks. Initially, we rejected to go there. We thought its impossible to reach there. But then my wife Vismayi told us that I will try to go there. It was surprising for us. She reached there within 2 minutes. She motivated us to go through that narrow and steep way. Finally, we reached there and it was a great moment for us. It was a golden moment for all of us. We got awesome bird’s eye view of Badami from here.

The fort is located opposite side to the Badami Caves. I liked it mainly for the freedom. Though, maintained by ASI the access is free and less crowded. You can be more leisurely here and there are 2 very beautiful view points. There are couple of small temples on the way up and one on the top which is worth a visit for the carvings around it. there is also a granary which is visually stunning.

If you have limited time when you visit Badami then you can skip this place as the agastya lake, bhootnath temple and cave temples will blow away your senses.

I have seen better forts in Rajasthan & Maharashtra so didn't like this place much.
