This was an amazing experience. We did the full day 20 tunnel tour and loved it. A very relaxing, unique, and fun experience. The guide we had (Terry) was superb, and the whole operation is well run with lunch and teas along the way. Every member of the staff we encountered throughout the day were very friendly and professional. This... More

This is a delightful experience. It is a full day, starting from Douglas (near Stratford Taranaki) at 0830 and riding in rail converted golf carts to Whangamomona, then returning to Douglas. Morning tea is provided at Te Wera. The whole journey is out of cell phone contact so our guide (Dave) carries a satellite phone for emergencies. The stop at... More

We thoroughly enjoyed the trip. The carts are really comfortable and easy to drive. We had a few showers but really didn't put a damper on it. The scenery and the tunnels are amazing. So much history. We were lucky to be only the 6th trip in the new boat and driver was really great. Had a few 360's everyone... More

We loved the rail car tour of the 5 tunnels! We only had a half a day in this town and were lucky to be able to book this trip, which made our day complete. The company was very accommodating and the nicest people!! We loved every part of the trip (even though it was raining a bit on that... More

Absolutely a highlight of our holiday. We chose the 20 tunnel tour. The cost seems expensive but it's worth every dollar. Even though the rain pelted on us in the first 5 minutes it didn't dampen our spirits. We had 4 seasons that day. Our guide Terry was great and went out of his way to ensure we all had... More

We participated in the Rail and River Run recently. This consisted of a 10 tunnel rail tour commencing in the early morning, and an afternoon return to our base by jet boat. We found it to be an alternative, but fun way to see the beautiful New Zealand countryside and wildlife, and to learn some of the history of the... More

We did the 10 tunnel, 44km, rail bike trip from Taumarunui to Tokirima. It was a superbly fun family adventure - a novel way to travel and get close to the countryside while letting the kids expend excess energy. Pigs and sheep ran across the railway track. Terry, our guide, was very knowledgeable about the history and communities in the... More

We spent all day on the rail doing the 20 Tunnel Tour, starting in Whangamomona where we stayed the night before, then headed towards Taumarunui before returning by shuttle to Whanga. Staying the night in Whangamomona was a great way to kick of the adventure. There were breaks about every hour to hour and half, with plenty of time to... More

A full day out riding the rail carts, we enjoyed fantastic scenery, impressive history and were well looked after by Maree with loads of information and delicious home baking. Brian our shuttle driver drove us back over the Forgotten world Highway from Taumarunui to Whangamomona after the rail cart trip and this gave another perspective of the area as well.... More

We feel like we have a bit of a magical combination that makes Forgotten World tours pretty special - as you pointed out . . . great scenery, interesting history, passionate staff, home baking as well as a unique way of travelling an abandoned railway. We do hope to see you back on the RailBike experience. Thanks so much for... More

Relaxing, kiwi adventure. Great scenery, old relics and history. Informative friendly guide. Recommend it for family and friend groups. Great stop for lunch at the Whanga pub and then the return journey. Close encounters with locals and animals and nature.
