Hard to say which walk is better; they are both beautiful. The one from Dunstan Steads to the north west is shorter and parking is free, whereas it costs a couple of pounds in Craster. The castle isn't the greatest but the location makes it well worth a visit.

This is a spectacular ruined castle on the headland by Craster. The walk over the headland is magnificent especially if the tide is in. There is no need to pay to go in-there's not much to see! It's the walk and the situation which is so good. Combine with a visit to the Jolly Fisherman for a belting outing.

Castle is well worth a visit, English Heritage property. Sits in a lovely location next to the sea, a lovely walk up to the castle. The little town of Craster where you can walk to the castle from is great. The smell of smoked fire which is used to smoke the kippers is lovely. If you like kippers you will... More

Whilst on holiday in Northumberland for the first time we visited Craster on the recommendation of a friend. It's was a misty day and decided to walk to Dunstanburgh castle to start, it was very eerie with the turrets poking out from the fog. Lovely walk up, we are English Heritage members so didn't have to pay to get in.... More

Coaster is famous for its kippers and once parked do get the kipper roll from the delightful man at the kiosk by the visitor centre. At £3.50 a snip as was the delicious scone which came with butter and jam and tea or coffee for £2.50. Then you can do an easy 4 mile circular walk which takes in the... More

This is a beautiful place to walk and wander around. Loved the walk along the coast from Craster, it's easy terrain with wonderful scenery. Enjoyed walking around the castle perimeter and marvelled at how the towers are still standing. There isn't a lot to explore, but we still managed to spend half a day including the walk there and back.... More

We were camping at Craster and whilst watching the sunset we could not resist the short walk along the coast to the castle. We knew it would be shut but it looked cool so the walk was well.worth it. The only downside was some rather grumpy and overly attentive cows. The kids and missus were a bit worried by the... More

So- couple of weekends ago Gail and I drove up to Craster and then walked up to Dunstanburgh Castle. The walk up is stunning and I have so many memory's of this walk both when I was young and older. I used to be a Scout Leader and we used to stay over at the church hall in Craster- so... More
