Beautiful hike to a picturesque place
After visiting the historic schist village of Piodao, I ventured out the following day to the popular Foz d’Egua. The way in was quite easy and straightforward but going back to Piodao Centro was another story. There were many photo opportunities along the trail ... birds, mountains, slugs, ruins .... just a wonderful meandering and enjoyment of nature. Foz d’Egua is small but picturesque. The spring waters were clear and so inviting. There’s also a hanging bridge farther up the hill but it’s off limits. Anyway, be sure to keep to the path. I got distracted on the way back. I ended up in a small place called Chas d’Egua where I had a very late lunch. And from there, I took the main road and hitched a ride back to the hotel :-) Happy hiking!

    Beautiful Hike and Pool
Foz d'Egua is the mid-point of a gorgeous hike loop from Piódão. It's about an hour each way, and leave extra time to explore Foz d'Egua. There's a longer hike from Foz d'Egua that is about 5 hours total and maps are available near the pool.

    Fresh water!
I walked from Pio Dao to Foz d'Egua and back, it's a nice loop walk you can do. Foz d'Egua is a cute little place. The water is very nice and refreshing. I did the walk on a very hot day so it was nice to stay at the praia fluvial for a while.

The walk to arrive there from Piodao can be easily done and at the arrival you find a small view of the valley, things look like simple and softly rounded by yhe light of the sun. You can try the water but it is very cold even in warm day or you can just stop and relax nearby with a great atmosphere

This place is reachable by car or hiking. Although if you start your day at Fraga da Pena like we did and head out to Piodao afterwards, I strongly suggest you to go by car. Bring confortable shoes and a beach towel if you are up for a swim in these cold but clear waters.

I rode my motorcycle from Porto to visit Foz d’Égua and nearby Piódão.

After about three hours of riding (206km), I reached Foz d’Égua. The two bridges are located next to the road, so are easy to reach, with parking available on the side of the road. The bridges are at the intersection of the Chãs river and the Piódão river. The small village is on the hillside above, overlooking the rivers.

A small dam has been constructed across the river, creating a shallow swimming area beneath the bridges. There is also an adjacent ‘beach’ for sunbathing. The bridges provide access to a steep footpath that runs up the hill to a small suspension bridge (currently closed). There is also a 2.8km hiking trail that leads to Piodão, with an estimated completion time of 55 minutes. It looks like a lovely spot to swim and relax but I was just there to take a few photos before heading to Piodão.

It's not quite the magical place that I had envisioned but it is worth a visit to take some photos before continuing to visit Piodão, or some of the other villages in the region.
