The dam is world’s tallest dam.The dam is built in tehri jheel.Special permission is required to go on the dam,but you can view it from a distance.About 1-2 kms before the dam, there is watersports activities where you can spend some time.

awesome view.... after all its the tallest dam in India...
although u cannot stay on the dam unless u have special permission...
overall a short nice trip and my 8 year old boy enjoyed watching it....
There is an Tehri adventure water sports area and a a paradise for adventure enthusiasts ....

Beautiful view.. great experience of water sports activities in the Tehri Dam. I Highly recommend it to other tourists.

The place is far from Mussoorie so start early to enjoy the sports at the reservoir.Its got some spectacular views from viewing piint

Good place to Visit. Following are my recommendations:
1. While driving through google maps, pl search for Tehri Dam & Not Tehri. It will direct you to city & not dam.
2. Tehri Dam View Point is waste. Instead go for Ropeway Ride in Tipri. While going & return to Tipri, one can drive via Dam & thats exciting.
3. Boating activities although expensive are good. We took a jet boat for 30 mins in INR 2500 but it was worth it.
4. Clean water. Pl maintain cleanliness of place. Breathtaking views.

Finally we managed to do this family trip. We were 6 adults and 1 kid, booked Ertiga , for one day return trip. Thanks to my mausiji for sharing the connect and all.the information for this trip. We started around 8 am in morning from.mokhampur home. First stop was at Agrakhal for breakfast. We went via narendranagar bypass route. We reached tehri boating point by 12 pm. Took a speedboat ride for half an hour , all.the way to floating hills ans dobracheti bridge. Enjoyed the boating, breeze on the reservoir . After boating we went to Tipri, crossing the dam to have fresh fish and rice for lunch.

I along with my wife visited it on January 2nd,2022. I had driven from Kanatal. It took us nearly 2 hours to reach there. The place is amazing and boat ride gives us opportunity to see the whole of lake. I had driven further to look at dam.

Amazing experience. Very well maintained with clear price and guidelines boards, we took a motor boat . It was exhilarating in the winter chill on a mammoth water body. There is a floating resort in the middle and also a massive suspension bridge.

If the weather is good then you can do water sports. There are plenty of water sports activities like Boating, Jet Skiing (Water Scooter), Floater/Bumper Ride, Jet Speed Boating, Speed Boating, Surfing & Kneeboarding, Kayaking, Banana ride etc.
Timings: 9 am to 6 pm.
Does the THDCIL Guest House allow bookings from non-employees of THDCIL? If so, how does one go about making an advance booking?

You can only go to backwaters area. Tehri dam is a prohibited site and you can not click the photo of the dam too. CISF guards posted at the dam don't allow to click the pictures.
To visit the dam, you need permission from the higher officials working over there.
What is the price of boating per person?

Banana ride and Speedboat:Rs.500 (approx) per person.
Jet Ski:Rs.300 (approx) per head. Try to negotiate.
Do need to visit tehri dam hole inside.

we check out from mussoorie on 30th sept. after that how can we reach tehri dam? where to stay? we have our train from dehradun on 2nd oct. how can we came back? plz help....

As lodging is already answered by another person and therefore I suggest you to explore another route from Tehri to Haridwar via Rishikesh and so you need not to come back to Dehradoon via Mussoorie to catch your train perhaps your train follow that route.
I didn't travel route from Tehri to Rishikesh so please check the route condition before making decision.
If you follow route back to Mussoorie then good to stay in Chamba as it will cut down some travelling otherwise stay in new Tehri which is the opposite end if you follow Rishikesh-Haridwar Road.
If road is good for mentioned road section then I personally prefer 2nd option.

Hi Kamal,
Water sports will be available but its comes with little higher cost. close to around 300/ head. There are banana boats, speedy boats, water scoters etc. Best stay would be in Dhanaulti if you are coming from Mussoorie. Its covered with dense green forest with a view of snow covered Himalayas

Take a bus till rishikesh.. Then take another to Chamba... Book a hotel there rest for a day... Next day go to Tehri.. Enjoy the lake activities, enjoy the beauty... Next day come to dhanaulti or kanatal... Stay enjoy.. Can go to Maa Surkanda mandir... Option then go to mussorie n come back via dehradun
