We had reservations. Welcome with refreshments and an exciting guide who knows the island, its flora, its history perfectly and whom we listened to with great pleasure. The only downside is that a visit is limited to the ground floor room because it needs to be rehabilitated. See you again...

I had seen this house several times through the railings and admired it with its fascinating story of being on its way from Eiffel's metal works to Louisiana. It was therefore a wonderful coincidence to see it was open - and on my birthday too - though the restaurant was closed for a private event later in the day. The mother of the owner is one of the most knowledgable and interesting people I have met in Guadeloupe. Not only does she know the history of the house but she also has an amazing and interesting knowledge of the history of slavery, with lots of books and pictures to back up her knowledge. She has researched the house and local history at the national archives in Paris and is keen to share her researches. The fruit punch was very welcome after walking around the garden and ruins of the sugar factory with its slave quarters and ancient chimney.

If the house is not open, there is a parking space opposite and the view of the house and the Indian monument just inside the main gates is still worth stopping for.

Definitely worth the detour!

We arrived a bit early. We walked around and took some pictures.

We were asked to park our cars on the other side of their house.

The lady of the house gave us a drink. We asked something with no alcohol.

Then she showed us all the fruits that can be seen in Guadeloupe. She gave slices for all the fruits. These were mostly delicious.

Then we went to the history of this plantation. It was a place for sugar canes.

They were building a tower, as it was in the past.

We were invited to go on the house. It was splendid and lots of artifacts from the past.

It was worthwhile to learn the history of this place.

Worthwhile to see!

For an hour and a half we were forced to listen to the guide who spoke in "college history professor" style to finally be able to visit an almost empty room, and it cost 8 euros per person.
On the “Zévalos” website it says 5 euros but it was actually 8 euros.
The truly beautiful building is in a deplorable state although 500,000 euros were recently donated for the restoration.
I wrote an email to those responsible - No response received...!

My friends and I decided to visit it as it seemed an interesting place. The opening time specified on the internet was wrong, but we managed to get there 15 minutes before the actual tour, which was great. We were welcomed with a glass of home-made juice, which again, was really nice. The lady who conducted the tour seemed very friendly, but did not speak English (I assume, as she said she cannot translate for us) and since our French is not top-notch, we got bored quite quickly. Also, we were expecting to visit most of the house and we were a bit disappointed when we were only able to see the lower level (one room basically).
In conclusion, if you are interested in the history of Guadeloupe and the house, and your French is good, it's worth it, otherwise you might find that you've wasted an hour on a tour that could have lasted a lot less.

I didn't actually visit this place but am writing a review to give directions. It is just north of an intersection on the east side of the road. We passed it multiple times before we saw it. It seems to be closed most of the time but if it happens to be open when you drive by, stop in for a visit.

Hello, We are really sorry for that. However, there are some signs along the road, they are not written in english. The house is very visible, you cannot really miss it because we are on the road. but we do take your observation into account, be sure we are trying to invest in more signs, but the situation of the house is so bad that we prefer taking care of it than buying more signs for the moment. But we will try to take care of that soon.

We weren't able to go in (closed on that day), but from the outside, it is beautiful and worth a stop for sure!
A pity that the metal work is getting so bad one wonders if it can actually be restored...
Just heard after our visit that it may be haunted - wow!

You cannot count on time frames posted. Not opened when the times on the signs posted said they would be. Too bad, because it would have been really cool.

We simply loved the visit! We felt that the owners are there to share the history of the house (and of the Guadeloupe) and also to save this historical monument. The visit starts with home-made welcome drink, the mum of the recent owners leads us to the gardens where she explains, shows, offers the samples of the fruits... She is very welcoming and generous. We shared the love to this place, were happy to support the place by buying a brick in the chimney stack. Crossing fingers for you guys, wishing you all the best of luck!!!

On a tour we stopped by this estate and it was beautiful from the exterior. The amount of history is exciting.
