Excellent museum covering Amer-Indians in Guadeloupe and its' surrounding islands. Lovely exhibits covering thousands of years ago through the 19th-20th centuries. I've visited a couple of other museums on the islands and didn't see anything like this. The museum is set on a lovely property so on a nice day take a picnic and sit on the grounds and enjoy. It's also by the sea so some great views and one of the best parts- it was free! Nice and friendly staff. Definitely a must see.

This is a very interesting museum and should be on your list of places to go on Grande Terre. There was no entry fee, just tickets to enter distributed by very friendly staff.
We were also very interested by the gardens between the museum and the 'cliff' going down to the 'beach'. The gardener was a wealth of interesting information and could describe the health benefits of each and every plant - he was so knowledgeable! We had such fun talking with him.
Find the steps down to a very pretty beach with cows/bulls tied up along the way!

Want to something about pre-Columbian Guadeloupe? Well, then this is the place. Small but well worth the visit when in the surroundings, and the only venue of its kind on the twin islands.

This museum must evolve! Stop putting up multiple text panels: a museum is not a book.
Hire a museographer to set the scene: the museography is too dated.
Do not mix contemporary art and archaeological collections.
It's a museum of France and also financed by the department! We expect more on this fascinating subject of Native Americans.

If you want to look deeply into the history of the island it is of interest. Furthermore, you are close to the city of la Moule. At first glance it doesn't seem to offer much but it has remained untouched by destruction due to war and weather and tourism has only permeated its outskirts. It is an authentic Caribbean town.

It is a very nice and interesting museum about archeology and the amerindians of Guadeloupe. It has quite a bit of information and a few nice models and dioramas.
Even with archeology being a fairly recent subject in Guadeloupe the museum remains quite small and the collection a bit light.
The positive point is that it is free

Please not the information on this attraction is incorrect. The Edgar Clerc museum is in le Moule NOT PAP. The photo is of the Victor Schoelcher museum in PAP. The reviews appear to be for the Edgar Clerc museum though. What a mess!

I love this place with its views out to see and beautiful rolling green gardens. The whole setting as well as the museum is perfect for a family outing, a wonderful place for children to roam. Used for school visits.
The exhibitions are very informative. The whole experience is free. Definitely worth a visit. Though check opening times as it does seem to work round the school timetable.

An ambitious archaeology museum located on Grande-Terre, Guadeloupe, named for pioneering archaeologist, Edgar Clerc, who unearthed a great deal of resources concerning the Amerindian peoples who lived in the Caribbean, before the arrival of Europeans and African slaves. Very informative and well worth the visit.

This was the best museum in Guadeloupe.
The entrance is filled with palm trees.
At the end we could see how the Amerindians ate.
We were in the museum for 3 hours. It was fascinating.
They explored how they lived, how they died.
They found skeletons and lots of artifacts made by the Amerindians.
Everything was well explained.
This is a must see!
