One of the Must-See if you are in the area. But please remember to give all our respect to the people of Kampung Naga, Please help them to preserve their value and nature and way of life.
So impressed that in 2019 (my visit) - in our modern day, we still have this community around us.

this is the better place to live with simple and traditional, no electricity, farm for your life.
located in a hidden place of Tasikmalaya, West Java.
You can stay overnight but need to come first and reserved, so the people of Kampung Naga will prepare your place to stay and your foods.
we came here from Jakarta and took 6 hours by car, from the parking lot to Kampung Naga is not a big problem, you will breath-taking by the great view, paddy field, houses and their stories.
pls prepare your stamina when you back to parking lot from Kampung Naga, as you will climb more than 459 stairs. :)
feel strange and dunno what to? they prepare the tour guide for you, charge? its up to you, as the tour guide the local person.
don't forget to buy their handcraft, or their rice as what I did :)
my tour guide told me the best time to visit around Jan-Feb or Jun-Jul, its their harvest time.

One of Indonesia's best heritage. If you looking for beautiful scenery, loves anything about nature, loves hiking, than Kampung Naga has it all. This place easy to find. You can get there by bus, car or bicycle, not too far from Garut, West Java. Kampung Naga is not recommended for family with little childrens or elder. To go down Kampung Naga you need to passes many stairs, almost 500 stairs. But don't worry, you can take rest a bit while going down at local shops. It spread in several area. Great price to see great originality of Kampung Naga. Thank God I've been able to feel this experience and write some architectural report about this beautiful place.

The village was located between Tasikmalaya and Garut. Good condition road, easy access, by own vehicle, or public transportation.
We arrived around 8 in the morning, and soon, met a guy who served as guide for visitor. No entrance fee.
To enter the village, we went down many staircases. The view to the village was so beautiful, palm-leaves roofed buildings with golden rice field surrounding. No electricity in the village. The community was living by using natural resources as much as possible. The guide was so kind and welcoming.
We spent around 2 hours there, sitting in his living room, having hot tea with brown sugar bites, talking about life within nature, and the ancient wisdom that was used as the way of life in the community. The ancient wisdom is so many, built into their daily lives, very deep, that I can't describe it. So, you must visit the village, see for yourself, and talk with the community, to get the lesson about life. It was like having Dharma-Karma discussion with high level spiritual teacher. So invaluable. So fortunate of us.
The family invited us for lunch. Food was served from their own harvest, steamed rice, fish, chilly sauce (sambal) and saute vegetable. All were freshly taken from yard. The farming practice did not use man-made chemical/fertilizer growth enhancer or insect/fungi killer. A rare opportunity.
Too bad we had to leave. The guide saw us back to top entrance, and waited with us, until we got into public bus. No one asked or even hinted about fee/donation at all. At the end we just gave him some, for their graciousness.
A priceless trip. Hopefully the village can maintain its harmonious nature and go on for a long long time ...

Kampung Naga (Naga Village) is a must-visit if you want to see the daily lives of the Sundanese farmers and their families up close. There's no entrance fee in the area but it would be nice to take a guide along to get to know more about their culture and history.
I got here by contacting Sandi, a local from Tasikmalaya who offers tours around the city and other nearby destinations (Garut and Bandung) for a very reasonable price. Sandi speaks good English and I assure you that he will take good care of you throughout the entire duration of his tour. You can contact him via WhatsApp at +62 822 1886 7311.

At the bottom of about 400 steps, this historic village has no electricity supply and looks more or less like it would have a century ago. You'll meet a guide and be escorted down (rack rate is 50,000 rp per peson), who will point out all the different crops they are growing, tell you how the village is run and show you the workings. You'll probably even get to see inside a house.
A fascinating insight on rural Javanese traditions. The village is exceptionally photogenic, and the terraces almost impossibly green. The whole experience will take about 2-3 hours once you're there. IF you're a photographer, start you trip about 3pm to get ideal light at the bottom of the hill.

this village is situated about one hour away from Tasikmalaya, precisely located in a valley surrounded by paddy field. From the parking lot you need to take more than 300 stairs down to the valley. So prepare you stamina before coming here! The things here are still natural, the house they built only face to the south or to the north, no modern gadgets, no electricity. thisa traditional has been kept that way for hundreds of years!

The landscape around itself it's worthy a visit. And the traditional village is just what you expect. A traditional village with no electricity and really impressive houses. At the entrance you are stopped by a "guide" which we have been told you need to go around with. So not too tourists at the same time. He told you it's free but afterwards he will ask you for money. This is the only negative point about it, but anyway for us, was excellent!! Ah, and you can get there by public bus. :))

1. Hi, what do you recommend to use for the transportation from Tasikmalaya airport to Kampung Naga? Taxi would be my last choice.
2. If I choose to use public transportation from Bandung, what is your suggestion?
TIA

Hello. I'm planning to visit Kampung Naga from Yogyakarta some time in May. Any transportation suggestions? Is there also a place to stay in Kampung Naga in case I want to spend a night there? Will appreciate any tips or insights. Thanks!

Hi there
Sounds like a good plan .. I guess you are flying from bandung to Yogya .. Tasik does have a small domestic airport I believe Wings or Batik air do it direct about an 1hr flight .. From tasik to Jakarta also available domestic flight but at the local airport not the international so you have to take that into account
Kampung Naga is about an 1.5 - 2hr from the city of Tasik depending on traffic .. I was there just a month ago in March and it rained quite heavily so walking is a bit tough .. Also I stayed at the Favehotel recently opened if you are looking for a place to stay .. 1 day should be enough in tasik .. If you plan to stay at the Kampung Naga I think you need to get the village people permission first so try doing it ahead of time
Let me know if you need anything else

How to book to go there for a day trip on 6th September?
Written 31 August 2017
Hi, there is no need to book. You just need to inform your driver to bring you there and they will know how to inform them beforehand. Usually, there will be someone around the carpark who belong to the village. The guide for the village can speak English and there is no admission fee. You just need to pay them some tips for their effort and help in their community. Are you staying around Garut city cause it is quite far from Bandung main city. Let me know if you have more questions. Enjoy your trip!
