It's a collection of things the rich Alvarez family has accumulated over the past 250 years. If you have questions about the house, family, the story behind the things etc. there is no time for that. I asked our guide about the red floor on the porch, which he promptly answered. But once the tour starts there is no time for any of it.
Better spend the 20-30 minutes talking to the parrot in big foot next door, who said 'mittho' on my wife's lead.

Casa Araujo Alvares is a private museum with ticketed entry of Rs. 100/- per person and Rs. 20/- for camera. It is housed in an old ancestral house with a collection of old traditional utensils, wares, tools, statues etc. For some visitors, the displayed items could be of curiosity, but such things I have personally seen in plenty in my village and most of them were not Goa specific.
The tourists are mandatorily guided by guides with school type discipline which is not appreciable.
Why this private museum has been placed by the Goa Tourism on its South Goa itinerary for it's promotion is not clear.

The house is well kept memories of lives in the past. The rooms, the interiors, the kinds and things and the holy corners of the home makes us believe, homes are made in time and requires courage too.

This place is Situated in Loutolim, Goa which is 9-10 km from Margao, Goa. This mansion named ‘Casa Araujo Alvares’ after it’s owner Eufemiano Araujo Alvares. Mansion is now converted in Heritage Museum. This mansion is 250 years old mansion. This is typical Portuguese colonial home. Prayer room can be seen from the door of mansion. Museum is full of historic stuff. You can visit Typical office, dining hall, bedrooms, hall, nursery, lofts, kitchen. Guide will give you all the information as you proceed in the museum in english and hindi. Glasses of this mansion are made from Sea shell. Must visit this place in your Goa Tour.

Detailed "slice of life" about Portuguese settlement in Goa with furniture and artifacts galore from the Alvares family, which was rich enough to carve "AA" into the dining room chair-backs.

This place is a bit off the tourist path in Goa, but if you want to see na amazing house in old Portuguese-Goan style (and the loveliest/fairy-tale well I could ever imagine), and also a thematic park telling the story of Goa under Portuguese influence, please do go to Big Foot. Apart from that, I was enthralled by the devotion of the staff to their job. Very humble people, in a far-away place, but with passion and kindness.
I will never, ever forget them.
Ah, and do pay for taking pictures at the house. That well is amazing!

We went there as a family of 3 senior citizen couples and found it highly overrated and very badly maintained and poorly explained ! All staff were hurrying us through instead of explaining properly and looked disinterested ! We were charged Rs 200 per person for the tickets but the receipts issued were for only Rs 100 per person which we saw only later !! CHEATS !!

This is the house of a Portuguese lawyer exhibited as it appeared a hundred or two hundred years ago. Even though they have tried their best to make it authentic, it failed. It looked more like a school exhibition. Even the audio guide was not very impressive.
Anyway, there is an attempt to narrate how life was in the house 200 years ago.

Located in the interiors, surrounded by greenery, this museum is very well maintained till date. Dated about 100 + yrs the artifacts are worth watching.
Every room has some or the other interesting stuff placed safely and away from our reach. As in you enter the rooms the guide switched the audio (Eng & Hindi) and it tells the USP of the stuff placed.
Interesting things were the wine making technique, different types of iron boxes, The Phalki, the well beside the building, dining table, clothes, vegetable cutters n etc etc.
There was a Persian cat as well (alive) in their premises which was eye catching.
Windows made were from sea shells and usually not available to see any where except Goa.
Murphy Radio is also preserved well.
Over all it is a very interesting place to visit and go back in old times.
