Just to clarify a few errors in other comments, NO BATHING SUITS! 100 yen is asked for from the local community that administer the baths, keeping it clean, etc, which is cheaper than any other proper onsen you will ever get in Japan. I'm not...More

It is administrated by the local community and will be charged 100 yen for maintenance fee voluntarily. However it is not good for ladies to enter the area because naked men are bathing around. They say no good with bathing suites but bathing manner is...More

This natural Onsen is amazing. Only accessible at low tide, you basically sit on the beach in the middle of nature. Be prepared to mingle with the locals. There is no building nearby. Nature pure.

This is the best hot spring I have been to so far. It is right by the sea and the day we went, the sea was rough, which made it more interesting. You can only take a bath when the tide is low. The temperature...More

Temperature is sweating warm. We stayed adjacent minsuku. Japanese food served at the minsuku is deliceous. Taking bath before and after hiking was fantastic. You need to donate 100 yen. Need a big towel.

Not sure what you mean by the washing area. There are a few bath tubs and people were just washing themselves using the hot water from the bath tubs. It is quite exposed (and tourists come and take photos) but don't be shy.
