Exploration of the island as a whole (and of the Benesse House area in particular), is too dependent on buses - there is simply not enough of them, and the system with Benesse guest buses vs. normal buses is too chaotic (apart from bikes, there...More

A wonderful island to visit and explore the sculpture trail. The art galleries are the highlight. Easy to get around by bike.

We came during a time with no special exhibition. Nice thing here is there is shuttle (at small fee) to take you around the island and museum hopping. People are quite friendly here. Not bad to spend half day here to see the museums and...More

We had a lot of fun walking around this beautiful island and renting an electric bicycle to ride its hilly scenic roads and explore its pretty villages. We were delighted by its empty clean beaches and profusion of wildflowers. The ferry ride from Uno Port...More

Tough to get to (from Kyoto there were 3 trains and a ferry), but worth it. Ando architecture is spartan, but cool. Art house are fun. The museums are amazing, especially for a small, out of the way island. Also, the outdoor art is world...More

As an art lover I had high expectations of this island, its museums and the site specific art works (reading the TA reviews it is a must for art lovers). I was hopelessly disappointed! We visited the Benesse House first as it opens at 8...More

We caught the 6.13am shinkansen from Hiroshima and managed to catch the 9.22am ferry from Uno to Miyanoura port. The idea was to do a leisurely day trip on Naoshima by enjoying outdoor installations in the Benesse House Museum area and visiting the Chichu Museum....More

We took the train leaving Okayama at 8.24 as this appeared to connect well with the ferry. We used our Suica cards on the train but this almost caused us to miss the ferry as there is no machine in UNO and everyone’s card has...More
