While the rice paddies had been harvested, it was still a lovely site. We took a taxi from Kusakabe, splitting the fare between four of us, as the bus service was not reliable at the time. While the return taxi fare was not inexpensive, it was well worth the visit. If there had been fewer of us, I would probably have taken the bus. There was an exhibit at the site as part of the 2019 Setouchi Triennial and it was excellent.

1. Bus schedule is a bit tricky
2. Need to climb up the mountain to get better view
3. The terrace is under preparation on most park looks barren or disorderly manner
4. If u just want to have a look at the terrace, u can view it frm the bus, without getting off to save time.
5. If u opt to get off the bus, perhaps have lunch next to the bus stop.

Nakayama Senmaida was not in my original plan, as I planned to go for Kankakei and Olive Park. Due to my arrival time at Shodoshima was a little bit late, so I didn't have luxury to go for these 2 spots.

However, by switching to Nakayama Senmaida, it made me felt more fruitful. During my visiting, it was a hot summer's afternoon, not many farmers (in fact, no farmer) were working. I took an Olive Bus and stopped at Nakayama.

Initially I tried out my best to search for a spot / place so called Senmaida, but eventually I noticed I was wrong! The entire place is called Senmaida and whenever you are standing, is surrounded by paddy field.

By standing on within the paddy field and watching the paddy waved by wind was a healing experience.

The bus heads to Tonosho will approach after about an hour.

My recommendation: stop at Nakayama and walk back to Kasuga-Jinja Mae (a stop before); you can visit the Kasuga shrine and walk up the slopes to see a better view. The Kasuga-Jinja Mae is equipped with WiFi! The returning bus to Tonosho is opposite the bus stand, but close enough to connect to WiFi.

We spent a rainy morning in Nakayama soaking up the old world atmosphere and enjoying the walk in the countryside.

Buses are infrequent, so plan your schedule carefully.

Finished the morning in Nakayama with lunch at Komame Shokudo, which has the best muffins I have ever tasted.

Excellent view and worth the effort to go. But the bus travelling to the area is very infrequent so make sure you check the bus schedule before you go. If you want to take good pictures, make sure you hike up to the photo points.

There is quite a story to tell in this area. the locals historically had to try hard to harvest rice on this hilly island, and that is what you see here. The transportation to get there is rather a challenge - either bus or battery assisted bikes, but it is worth a visit if you enjoy nature and history. I personally recommend renting a battery assisted bikes from ports or bike rental places. This way, you wont be tied to scarce bus schedule. Also check out a big bamboo house of art work (you cant miss it there) as well as a farmers kabuki theatre in the area.
