Fantastic time of year with the slopes orange with the trees changing colour. The path is steps pretty much all the way, very steep steps (by uk standards) and most people had walking poles. I suffer bad vertigo and by the 5th station, I turned back with the path getting higher and still very steep. But this also makes it quite incredible, The temples at the base and the shops/cafes at the base of the town are nice. Buses are tricky (5-6 a day) so you may find this dictates your day. We got the 10:22 arriving bus and left at 15:20 and to ascend and descend the summit is tight but probably doable if you don’t stop at the temples / shops.

This was actually my second visit to Mt. Daisen. The first time was in fall when I climbed to the top so I could enjoy the lush autumnal colors along the way, this time I didn't climb the mountain but I could enjoy all the snow-covered sights around Daisen. I think each season offers a different experience and atmosphere so I look forward to going again in spring and summer!

The trip in the Daisen was really great. Although it was slippery to climb the steps in the snow, the different experience deepened the impression of the trip. I took pictures with Daisen in Flower park, tasted delicious vegetarian food and Ice cream, visited the shrine, and enjoyed the tea time at the Hongu Izumi spring(use spring water). All these experiences were so wonderful. Travelers Huber San’in ’s itinerary and activities are really good.

This is the first time I visited Daisen.I really enjoyed this day with the help of local guide. Japanese Temples and shrines are interesting for me. And also you can go skiing in Daisen. When it goes to summer, I am going to climb to the top of the mountain definitely

What a beautiful mountain! I came to Tottori Prefecture to hike Mt. Daisen and it was a wonderful experience. To reach the top, it's less then 4km and is not that tough. The most difficult part was braving the wind at the top. You get incredible views from the top of the surrounding area. I was here in November, temperatures were still mild and the weather was beautiful. At the top there is a small rest station and places to sit. I came early, there were not to many people here but as I was descending, there were lines of people coming up, so I recommend come earlier in the morning and pack for cold weather. The views are worth every step!

I took a local bus from the train station and started my ascent around 11.20am. The trail was better maintained than I expected, and there seemed to be more construction going on at the side. Snow and ice began to appear the higher I climb and eventually, the stairs are covered with it.

There was no scenery in the first half of the climb but after rising above the tree line, the bird’s eye view of the surrounding countryside is spectacular. By the time I reach the top at 2pm, those awesome views are complemented by the majesty of nearby mountain ranges.

Although the views are great all around, it’s a bit disappointing that after arriving at the ‘summit’, I could still see a higher peak not that far away. Judging by the faint trail of footsteps ignoring the ‘no entry’ sign and leading to that other peak, it’s obvious that I’m not the only one who feels this way.

I didn’t stay at the top very long because of the cold, buffeting winds. Instead of descending by the alternate rounding route which had more ice and snow, I decided to go down the same way I came up and reached the base around 4.30pm.

It’s probably my own fault that I didn’t do much research before deciding to climb this mountain because I was trying to climb ice on flat-soled runners, probably the worst shoes for the job. I slipped on the ice so many times on my way up and slipped countless more times on the way down >.<

Mt.Daisen is now one of my favorites mountains in Japan.

The scenery is so beautiful, peaceful and clean fresh air. On the foot of the Mountain also have a beautiful plum garden. Red plum with Greenfield. So wonderful.

Near the mountain also has a lake which is so stunning.

This is a very great place to visit. :)

Most of the areas are shaded and it’s not very hot in late September. Bring a stick (or a pair) if possible as it’s quite tiring to go up for about two hours (and I chose the easier summer trail already!). It was a wonderful hike though it was quite foggy on the day I arrived the summit of Daisen.

Highly recommend staying in a hostel (ryokan in Japanese) along the ryokan street after the hike. You may enjoy onsen to rejuvenate your body. The area is very quiet and relaxing. Enjoy the nature and Japanese culture!

Actually viewed this majestic mountain from the Flower Park. My Trip Advisor background photo is one of my favorites from this day trip. No snow caps, but still beautiful nonetheless.

Winding roads, great views, and a small ski slope with lift operating in off season. Lots of trails for the more adventurous.
