Even under gray skies at sunset, this natural arch rock formation is a lovely sight. It makes a nice destination for a walk from the hotel.

This rock formation is the symbol of Shirahama and we spotted it all over Wakayama Prefecture. There are boat trips that sail around it. Otherwise, we enjoyed a picnic at the shore and soaking our feet in the nearby free public foot onsen!

I didn't go during sunset but the morning. It was slippery while walking toward the sea during low tide. You better wear suitable shoes with it.

A unique 20 minutes watching the sun go down and eventually catching it through the hole in the rocks. Not something that I thought can be done but if you stand in the right direction, some nice photos can be taken.

This is a must see!! We reached about 4.45pm & waited for the sun to set. As we self drive, we just park the car at a car park along the road but we later realised that lots of cars just park along the road...More

It's a beautiful place to look at and take photos of anytime during the day. It's not necessary to take a boat out to have a closer look at it,

An almost perfectly round hole makes for an interesting full-moon look alike. It is on the way from Ezura beach to Shirahama Beach. A nice walk.

A little underwhelmed by this attraction. Strictly speaking it is just a natural structure in which at opportune locations the sun can be seen shining through the hole in the island and photographs beautifully. Otherwise, it is just an island. Sufficient parking spaces were located...More
