Very romantic at sunset. Some nice views from the lobster restaurants in front of the rock. Can get pretty busy at sunset when photographers are trying to get a shot of the sun shining through the hole in the center of the rock.

It is so unique and beautiful that I couldn't remove my eyes from the small island. When you are in Shirahama, don't miss the sunset of Engetsuto.

Engetsuto is a small island known for its arch, and is located along the coastal drive in Wakayama.

There is a small parking lot by the side of the road for visitors to park their cars so that they can walk across to the other side of the road where they can snap pictures of the island.

It is pretty surreal to have a piece of nature in the middle of the sea, and makes for a good photo opportunity.

We were trying to find the best location to view this but there was no specific address that we can input into google map. But if you drive along the Shirahama coast, you will see the sign with the picture of Engetsuto. Just follow it and you'll see a car park where you can park and cross the road to view the sun setting. There's also a flight of steps that can lead you to the rock coast. Good spot to take pictures.

To see the sun through this hole spring and autumn is the season to visit. But just viewing it at anytime of the year is a wonderful sight! You can always take the boat for a close up, but I believe the better photos are from shore!

Was there on a cloudy date but the sunset is still very pretty. However the sun cannot appear on the hole of the island. Be there in the summer if you would like to have the postcard photo taken.

Even under gray skies at sunset, this natural arch rock formation is a lovely sight. It makes a nice destination for a walk from the hotel.

This rock formation is the symbol of Shirahama and we spotted it all over Wakayama Prefecture. There are boat trips that sail around it. Otherwise, we enjoyed a picnic at the shore and soaking our feet in the nearby free public foot onsen!
