Somehow this place is not as popular as the other places around Kyoto. I can go there from northern Nara by bicycle. The ticket is very cheap, lets you into one of the best photography spots. During autumn, the maple leaves are vividly red and very popular with photographers. If you are up for a walk, there is a long course leading off the main area of the park. The scenery is very great. One thing you can't miss is the bridge up top.

Admission is free, except for the 200 yen admission fee for adults to enter the Suikeien Garden. The 150-meter long, spectacular landscape of 500 granite boulders weighing 20 to 70 tons is overwhelming. There are also many carp swimming in the pond, and turtles are attracted to it. My wife was very happy to be able to buy food for 100 yen.
