Izu-Atagawa seems to be all about the Onsen experience, but one can't really sit in a tub all day. The Tropical & Alligator Garden seems to be the only real attraction off the Izu-Atagawa station, but it's really great for photographers, couples, and families with little kids. The park is bit far from Tokyo but valuable to visit. Many aligators, lesser pandas and turtles must attract kids and the juice made from bananas which grew in the park is quite delicious. Also, lotus ponds must be impressive for adults. Please do not forget print out coupon from websight of them. (One doller for each person)

I was very impressed by the variety of plants in the gardens. There was some information in English, but not as much as there was in Japanese.

I left the park with very mixed feelings at the end of the day. As with some other attractions in Japan you can either purchase individual tickets for the upper Panda Park, the Botanical Garden and the lower Crocodile Park (which are connected by a shuttle bus) or a combined ticket. This must be a hidden gem, hadn't heard much about such a wonderful place with tropical plants and a huge collection of crocs, turtle, tortoises and fish so near the Atagawa train Station!
