I went there during the day on the day of the Chichibu Night Festival in December last year. I was able to see the autumn leaves even at this time of year. I was told that the river boat ride would be on the following Sunday, but would be closed in the winter. It was a very fun and thrilling experience. I would like to go river boating somewhere again.

I was looking forward to the thrill of the white water, but it wasn't very rough at all. Nonetheless, everyone in the boat ooh'd and ahh'd as we went through the "whitewater" parts. It's a pretty quick ride, but one you must do while in Nagatoro as the river and the rocks are the main attraction. I'll recommend it as a fun time, but it's a short and pretty tame ride, so set your expectations accordingly!

Did a day trip from Tokyo to Nagatoro/Chichibu. This boat trip was named 'romantic'. Not sure what, if anything was romantic about it, but we had a laugh and got a little wet. I've never done this kind of thing before, so rather enjoyed it. It was a beautiful sunny day and the sakura had not arrived, but still...worth doing.

The cool wind from the river and the color of Fall season made me a wonderful moment to remember. There are 3 courses for Nagatoro river white water rafting. I chose A course the easy one that proper to everyone including children.

The Japanese wife of my brother in law was very excited to have us visit and "shoot the rapids." We drove a couple of hours and the boat ride was what seemed to be less than an hour. This could be a fun trip if you find yourself in the area, but it is a pretty mellow, albeit pretty cruise down the river.

Took the long (in terms of time) train trip out to Nagatoro on a beautiful day, looking forward spending time on the river, planning to do both routes. When we arrived, we were told that I unfortunately today they are only running a short rote. That turned out to be about 150m along the river at snail pace and back a little quicker, with a boat guide who never stopped talking to allow anyone to enjoy the tranquility. Not good enough and very disappointing. Not sure how you check to make sure that they are running proper trips on the day you visit.

The "rafting" in the title is a bit misleading -- it's just a boat ride without any sense of adventure... The autumn colours are nice around mid to late November. The rock formation is also interesting. You can sample some local food after the boat ride.

I always wanted to try white water rafting but never had the chance yet. Until this opportunity come across. We helped in a local matsuri as volunteers, so we were provided free rides. It was absolutely worth the money. ;D
Seriously, it is a very nice river, the flow goes a bit rough at some places but apart from that, it is a pleasant ride. Far from true white water rafting, so I still want to try that, but for first experience, it was super. My Japanese wasn't enough to fully understand the guides but they looked really entertaining.

We had heard about the wooden boats that go down the river when researching Chichibu but ruled it out, a) we thought it would be expensive, and b) we though it would be unsuitable for young children. When we got to Iwadatami and saw the boats, we realised the kids would be fine and enquired about the cost, it was very reasonable, approx 4000yen for our family of 4 for a short run including the bus back. We are really glad we did it, the guides were great, the boat ride was fun and was enjoyed by all of us.

We were there just before Obon and as a Typhoon was due to come through, the guide said it is normally much busier so we got luck, we only had to wait about 5 minutes for the boat. The guide said that during Obon other peak times the wait can be more than 2 hours.
