You may use Chichibu rail line in order to get here. The train and station are old.But it is still clean. It is very close to Nagatoro station.I visited here on April 16th 2019.I could see a lot of cherry blossoms around the station. The rocks are interesting. The gorge are so scenery. You just need from 30 minutes here. There are souvenir shops and restaurants near the rocks. If you want to enjoy some beauty of nature.please visit here.

As the name translates into, iwadatami is really flat rocks arranged like a tatami, and from a distance it looks like its floating on a river. We went here on a side trip, to get some lunch (at the shotengai) and decided to drop by. There is a river cruise (different prices, cheapest at 1600 yen, I think). But if you are not up to any water adventure, you can just walk along the river through the rocks. The rocks are not high (but probably slippery after rain or snow), so children and oldies can walk safely. There are many restaurants leading to the river, so it's a sure thing you will not get hungry. I am not sure of the public transportation, but it looks near the Nagatoro Station, though this is quite far if you are coming from Tokyo. I would suggest combine it with other trips in the Saitama Area (like we did), to make the gas/transportation cost worth it.

Our room at Choseikan overlooked a portion of the rocks so we watched them daily as the trees changed color as the sun filtered over the rocks and as the tourists came and went to walk along the paths.
We walked on the rocks on two different days. Although it seemed like a long way from one end to the other on the first day, once we were familiar with the route and knew where we were going and where we would come out, the path became much shorter.
We bought a picnic lunch on the tourist shopping street and sat on the rocks to eat. We stopped at several places mentioned in our maps and managed to find all the marked spots on the tourist map (take a photo of the map posted around town before you begin your walk) We choose not to take a boat ride, but we did photograph many of the boats and kayaks as they passed by.
The end of the path comes out near Momiji Park, another pleasant place to visit (and a park that has a public toilet if needed).
Be sure to wear good walking shoes as the rocks are slippery in places, especially where they are damp.

Iwadatami (tatami rocks) park is an obligatory place to visit in Nagatoro. It's very close to the train station and the walking street that leads to the park is full of restaurants, ice cream and souvenir shops. The park itself is very small, consisting of the rocky riverside and scenic views of the greenery. It's specially beautiful in fall, when the trees are multicolored. Boat and kayak rides are available.

much smaller than expected and if no signs you would not notice it. You can go there if you happens to be nearby but not necessary to visit on purpose.

about 1/2 hour train ride from Chichibu where you may find some differences in experience and sights. Beautiful seashore along the river while you take a raft ride along the shores, be prepare to get some wet if no good protection.

I had a fun boat ride in Nagatoro with my family. It was a little expensive for a short trip but for Japan it is normal I guess. It was a cherry blossom season so we were blessed with natural beauty🌸

If you are looking for that sweet escape, do come herel It is only 2 hours 15 min train ride from Shibuya. Less than 8 min to this place from Nagatoro station
It is just beautiful. Do check out my blog with many photos with more detailed insights
If you are coming here, do plan other activity than just coming here.

Although I would recommend visiting better places if you are short on time, I liked this one (I live in the prefecture). Must be beautiful in red-leaves season but I was there a month before it started. Nice rocky river bank with many trees on the other side, the road leaving there is a historical shopping street, I saw many kayakers (I don't know about rental facilities) and you can try the traditional rafting, too.
Again, if you can squeeze this place into your stay in Japan, it is worth considering.

Conclusion: If you are on a short trip, you could cover more important places in a whole day but if you are staying here for a long time say 1-3 months, it is definitely a weekend getaway for which spending one full day is worth it. Otherwise, you could skip this place
To reach this place, it takes approximately 2 hours from Tokyo and changing multiple trains. For us from Shinagawa, we had to go to Ikebukuro and then take a semi express till Hanno and then change to take a train to Seibu Chicibu (to save little money. You could take an express train from Ikebukuro to Seibu). Walk till Ohanabatake station which is very close and then take another train to Nagatoro. It sure is not as complicated though. Once you arrive, there are just two things you can do here. 1. Take a boat ride. It has three options A (a 5 km ride from point a to b for 1600 yen per person), B (a 5 km ride from point b to c for 1600 yen), C(A+B ride for 3200 yen.) It closes at 4:00 pm. On the day we went we had only option A ride available. There will be a bus that will take you to the location where boat ride starts and this information about the bus will be provided at the ticket counter. On the boat, you will enjoy a good ride by two professional rowers cum guide (fully in Japanese :() The boat goes from in between rocks, and close to rocks and its very scenic You can capture good pics. Once you reach point B, there will be an option for B ride but it was closed on the day we went. So you end up taking some good pics and enjoy a beautiful scenery before walking back to the station and then 2.) You might want to take a cable car which is Okay. Yeah, it does take you to a very beautiful park on the top. You can enjoy sunset from here but you need to trek all the way uphill. Its kind of walk in the park but depends. Thats it!
