In the high season it is a leading snowfallarea in Japan where snow falls from 4 to 5 meters, snowy good powder snow derived from high altitude is a selling point. Besides skiing guests, you can touch natural snow from the earliest November to the latest June in the Kanto area of japan. There is nighttime special operation on the specific day of May, September, May.Let's go see the star and milkyway

The cable car will take you up the mountain and the chairlift will send you further up after the cable car ride. Take note the chairlift fee is not included in the cable car ride ticket. It is optional and purchase separately.

Beautiful autumn scenery!

We took the rope way to access the ski resort. A fascinating view of very steep terrain. Along with skiers and foot tourist were many snowshoers and hikers.

It was a great climb but would have wanted to know how difficult it was from the start.
And we didn't even climb from the foot of the mountain. We started from the rope way.

Ppl we asked were the guy from our hostel, a guide and two ppl at tourist info. They all said it took around 1-1.5h to climb but no mention about how steep and physically exhausting it was 50% of the road!

All and all it was a fun climb and definitely worth the shacking legs when you reach the top. But have a good rest before you climb down.

Have sticks with you to save you knees down hill.
If climbing in November like we did, have warm beverages with you cause it gets cold on the top.
Either have a good meal before the climb or/and have a snack you can have reaching the top.

We hade hot tea and some bread but that's because we are a very- bad -prepared -couple.
Ppl around us had stoves and real food with them!

Extremely beautiful view!

I have mild height phobia so it’s a thrill ride for me. Beautiful views that change as you go higher. I went in summer so you can imagine how much more beautiful in autumn! Not cheap , 2000+¥. The summit was a few degrees cooler than land which was nice in hot summer. If you don’t drive, do make sure you check the bus arrival/departure timing because it’s very infrequent.

Thank you for your visit. Did you enjoy the view of Mt. Tanigawadake? About 2.5 hours from Tokyo. Mt. Fuji Tanigawadai is one of 100 famous mountains in Japan. Using the ropeway from early October to early November you can enjoy nature's autumn leaves in a national forest with an altitude of 1,500 to 700 meters. Skiing is from December until the beginning of May. There is natural snow from the end of November until the beginning of June. beautiful alpine plants will flower from mid May. As you pointed out, since the number of buses is small, please check the timetable from HP of the 「Kan-etsu Transportation」. Timetable can also be viewed from the English website of Tanigawadake Tenjindaira Ski Resort「access」 For details please see the official Twitter @tenjindaira Please also look at the official facebook @ 10JIN10. best regards.

If you are in the area, might as well take the Ropeway, It's a slow ride maybe around 10 mins one way, so you can just sit there, relax and enjoy the view.

We came here by driving and interestingly the parking was a multi-storeyed building, and we could take the lift direct to the higher floors to buy ticket and go to the ropeway. The cart was quite big and spacious, and along the way we could savor the beautiful views of the mountains, with plenty of greens.

Further up we started to see the residue of the snow. Being in end-May I was quite surprised to still see the snow on the ground. And when we landed at the station (1,319m) there were more snow, though the temperature was not particularly cool. It was also a good spot to take photos, with Mt. Tanigawa as background.

Seeing the ski lift in operation, we decided to pay and take the ride. It was my first time riding on a ski lift and it was quite good fun. All the way it was just slightly above ground so it was not intimidating even for those afraid of heights. And quickly we reached the summit (1,502m).

Apart from the observation deck where you could take photos closer with Mt. Tanigawa, there is also a small shrine. We met some friendly Japanese gentlemen there who talked to us in English, asking us where we came from and offered to take photos for us. A funny group of elders and got me thinking whether I could be having similar experience with my friends visiting the world when I was their age.

If you like hiking, there is also a trail where you can hike along the mountains. Of course that is for serious hikers and not us.

Came here in the morning after staying overnight in the nearby Takaragawa Onsen (separate reviews). Took a bus from Minakami Station (20 minutes, hourly) to the stop at the base of Tanigawadake Ropeway (a funitel or aerial lift). From here the gondola took us in 10 minutes to the summit station a.k.a Tenjindaira (> 1300 m), a small ski resort half way to the mountain top from where a pair chairlift brought us to the peak (1500 m). On our visit in October (a few years back), the weather was clear and cool. No snow yet but the scenery was spectacular: rugged mountains covered with lush vegetations decorated by colour-changing trees. The viewing platform on top of the station should not be missed. Mt. Tanigawa (1977 m) is considered one of the 100 most famous mountains in Japan. Lots of locals came not for skiing/snowboarding but visiting the small, serene Shinto shrine up there and enjoyed the awesome view, like we did. Spent a few enjoyable hours walking around and taking photos before lining for the lift, then the gondola - didn't expect such a long queue, may be because it was weekend. Took the bus back to Minakami station and in less than 3 hours we were back to Tokyo on JR train. A great getaway at a great value!

While you can take a bus to the ropeway or a train and walk from Doai Station, I would recommend that a visitor rent a car and drive to the base of the ropeway. The scenery is awesome and being in a private car, you always have the option to pull over and take a few pictures.

We went in April, and so there was still plenty of snow at the top. We visited during the week and so never had to wait in a queue for anything. The trip to the top, in a class enclosed gondola, takes 20-30 minutes and the view are spectacular. Many of the hotels, including ours, provided us with coupons that gave us a nice discount on the ride to top. Definitely, do not miss this opportunity to look at Japan from its rooftop!
