Watching several hundred Red-crowned Cranes jumping and dancing was simply spectacular. These are majestic birds, culturally significant to the Japanese. Being able to view so many, and at such close range, was one of the reasons we visited Japan in winter.

At the Tsurui Ito Red-crowned Crane Sanctuary you are close to the wildlife. It is a great place to the the Red-crowned Cranes.

Maybe I was expecting too much, it was not as what I have expected in some photos. Just around 20 red-crowned cranes. Nothing fascinating.

loved all of it, nothing else to say Five star for sure - we had the most amazing service, both in our rooms, and in the restaurant, and we were instantly immersed fully into Japanese culture and tradition.
