We visited Shiretoko Goko in early October, and were unfortunate that the longer trails around the park were completely closed due to bear activity. The views from the boardwalk were still very good and we were fortunate with the weather to have some blue sky,...More

We took a guided tour during winter to view the lakes which were all frozen. Fantastic view and untouched by man. The whole tour lasted 2 hours and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves trekking through the snow and ice on snowshoes.

It was pouring rain when I joined an afternoon tour visiting Shiretoko Goko. Despite this, it did not lose its beauty during the rain. The tour company offered long boots and rain coat for rental at cost.

I reached the visitor center at 4pm only to find out that you need to book a guided tour to have a complete tour of the 5 lakes as the place is in the wild where brown bears roam. The rangers there were very nice...More

There are three walking options; we took the longer 90 minute walk past the five lakes, then ending on the elevated walkway with views of the mountains and sea. The path around the five lakes is uneven and can be muddy and slippery, but worthwile...More

Last July we visited Shiretoko Goko with reservation of guide tour (about USD 100 a person), expecting the experience of something special in nature. We could see the traces of beer and a few of plants, which could hardly be seen in any other places,...More

The walk only takes a couple of hours and it is at a very leisurely pace, with a lot of stops to take pictures. If you're staying in Utoro, the drive there is less than half an hour.
