This is one of the most beautiful places I've seen in Japan. The waterfalls are not the most impressive part, especially because you can't get that close, but the view of the coast and the walk to the waterfall is so wonderful. We ran into a big group of wild deer on our way, which was an amazing sight to... More

This is an 20 minutes hike from the Shiretoko Nature Centre and is easily accessible with well marked signs along the way. You will also have the chance to come in close contact with deers and foxes during the short hike. At the end of the trail, you are rewarded with an amazing view of Sea of Okhotsk and Furepe... It's a nice walk to the fall, which is part of the experience. The wind was almost gale like so that ends to the fun, Yes, the fall is quite a view.

Furepe-no-Taki is a 15 minute walk from the Nature Centre just outside Utoro. These aren't the most impressive falls on the Shiretoko Peninsula, but it is worth the short walk to reach them. The water falls from the middle of the cliff, without a river above ground. The situation of the waterfall, in a small inlet, is rather lovely. On... More

This is called Furepe Falls (not Frepe), and it's easily accessible from just behind the Nature Centre - there are signboards on the hike trail from the carpark, and the visitor centre staff can also share info on this. Easy, flat hike into tall grassy land, after a short while you reach the edge of the coast on a cliff,... More
