I was given a tour of the factory here at Kouraku Kiln, by Sebastiao. It was amazing to learn about the pottery process that they use and see it in action - start to end of the process (I am completely new to ceramics/pottery and this was a fantastic introduction)!! In addition to the wonderful factory tour, Sebastiao also gave me some great tips of other things to see and do around Arita, for example, to visit the Touzan Shrine, which I would have undoubtedly overlooked!
My only regret is that I was unable to take advantage of the ‘treasure hunt’ - where you get to fill a basket of treasures for a fixed fee - as my luggage space wouldn’t allow for it! I did get to see the pottery up for grabs however, and I highly recommend taking advantage of this great deal if you have the chance! I was given a small plate as a souvenir gift which will be lovely to display at home, and I enjoyed some iced green tea from a lovely cup, which I was able to select myself! Thank you so much for a lovely experience!!

Since I had a 5-days JR pass I wanted to do something a bit different on top of sightseeing and shopping. I then found 幸楽窯 which allowed you to go for a pottery treasure hunt for 90 minutes.
I love Japanese pottery so I thought it's not a bad idea to have that experience. We arrived a bit early since we decided to walk to the factory rather than taking a taxi. It's quite easy to reach but if it's a hot day then you might be wet through :)
Once I decided the package I wanted to hunt they gave me a basket to hold my treasures. I only took about 45 minutes to finish the hunt, since there were so many and you could fill up the basket easily.
Some people may found this activity stupid but to me it's an enjoyment to pick what you like with an affordable price. Of course you also need to consider the weight of the potteries that you need to carry back :) That's why I am not greedy at all.
If you want to do something different in Kyushu this can be your consideration!

We have found this place online and i always want to go to Arita. We have to book on line for the treasure hunt, you can pay 10000 yen and pick whatever amount of pottery that u can fit in a supermarket size basket. It is really fun and they will help to ship it back. However we love the class the most, we can either draw or decorate a pottery of our choice and they will glaze for us. People are so friendly in here and we have lots of fun.
