a well-run ski resort with plenty of runs, the necessary infrastructure and facilities. The ski shops are surprisingly well-stocked and reasonably priced, and the vibe is laid back and fun. There are just a tad too many tourists in peak season, so for peace and...More

I loved staying here and so did my partner. We stayed for a week and enjoyed every minute. 9 resorts to choose from in a relatively small area means your spoilt for choice. Culture is abundant as it is an emerging place to go right...More

This little village has EXPLODED in the last five years. The perfect base to ski from Goryu to Cortina. A good shuttle bus service, although a bit tricky to work out when and where they leave from - seems to change by the day. Reliable...More

What’s great about Hakuba? Plenty of choice of resorts to ski with generally free inter connecting shuttle buses. Good quality snow, friendly and accommodating staff and locals, with good variety for all skiers, boarders and others. What’s not good? The signage on the mountain was...More

It is a very nice town with plenty of snow this year. There is a town center that has a few nice restaurants e.g. shinshu soba house. The souvenir shop was good. We were there on 1Jan and the Japan Rail offered free sake and...More

I visited Hakuba Village with my family, 6 adults and 2 children under 10. We all ski or snowboard, at different levels from “first-timers” to advance. The village houses 5 ski resorts, all at 15-45 min drive from the Hakubahappo bus stop. I visited: Hakuba...More

We stayed at the Hakuba Goryu More Resort, also known as Condominium Goryu Hakuba. What a great location. After initial lessons, the grand kids were able to step outside our accommodation and ski straight down to a couple of different chair lifts. Once finished skiing...More

Hello there, good folks! I am a traveler from Taiwan, and I plan to visit Hakuba this winter. I've never done any skiing/snowboarding before, and I've only walked on light-to-medium snow. I plan to visit Japan alone, and I am not much of a nightlife person. Thus, I'm looking for a quieter experience where I can be close to nature, and learn more about the culture, history, wildlife, etc. of Hakuba. I'll be on working-holiday visa, so time restriction won't be that much of a problem. Now, Hakuba seems to be a pretty huge place with several sights and resorts scattered across the region. Could someone please kindly help me with the following questions: 1. Of all the resorts, which one is the best for someone like me 2. What are some recommended guided tour agencies (in English) 3. How many days should one spend in Hakuba 4. Does one need to be loaded with cash in order to enjoy one's time there--is this location backpacker-friendly That's all I have to ask for now. Thanks in advance!

Hakuba was my favourite part of Japan when I visited and I wish I spent more time there. I stayed near Goryu - probably the easiest place for beginner skiers and snowboarders. I think time spent really depends on how much... More
