This hall was built in 1288 (the first year of the Shoo era) to protect the Konjikido Hall for the long term.
It was originally located where the Konjikido Hall is today, but when the Konjikido Hall was dismantled and repaired in 1963 a new covering hall was built, so it was moved to its current location.
As the Konjikido Hall was originally housed here, the building is characterized by its high ceilings.
There is a single pillar in the middle, which tells of the history of the building as a place where the Konjikido Hall was housed.
Although the Konjikido Hall has been relocated, the dignity of the building itself remains intact.
When you enter the building, you will feel a unique sense of intimidation.

The last building in the secluded area including the famous Konjikido (Golden Temple) is the Former Sheath Building that protected the Konjikido from wind, rain and snow for nearly seven centuries before it was replaced by the current sheath building in. You can enter the impressive building to view its construction. The description at the front of the building tells that the building is believed to have been completed by the 16th century following additions and modification from the 14th century.

The Golden Hall can be said to be the symbol of Chusonji Temple. A covering called a "fukudo" was built to protect the Golden Restaurant from wind and snow. The current covering hall was built when the Golden Hall was dismantled and repaired in 1963, but this hall is the one that existed before that.
The Golden Hall's covering has apparently undergone several expansions and reconstructions since a simple roof was put up about 50 years after the temple was constructed. This old covering hall is thought to have been built during the Muromachi period, and we were able to see the bare, empty interior.

This is literally the area where the Golden Hall was originally covered. I imagined that the Golden Hall was located here. The space is spacious and has a high ceiling. Now, there are paintings of Hiraizumi on all four sides, a monitor explaining Chusonji Temple, and benches, making it a rest area.

Historians and the Chuson-ji People consider that the Golden Hall had been left outdoor only for a short while after its completion due to its fragile nature. The Golden Hall soon received a relatively simple sheltering structure over it sometime before the mid-12th century. In 1288 during the Kamakura Period (1185-1333), a more permanent sheltering hall was built to cover the original building. The building then received many repairs and modifications since the original construction and finally came to this condition in the 16th century during the Muromachi Period.
This Kamakura-Kamakura Periods building is seen about 100 meters away from the Golden Hall. If you see this building without knowing its original function, it looks nothing but an empty and miserable looking structure. However, it is a very old wooden structure for such a unique purpose, it is designated as an Important Cultural Property.
