We visited Lake Shikaribetsu in February during the ice village festival. It was such a unique experience for us. The igloos were well built and there was an ice bar where you could buy a hot or cold drink. Sitting on solid ice having a drink was quite fun... there are also igloo rooms to rent. The public onsen was... More

We visited Lake Shikaribetsu in February so it was frozen and had the ice village set up. It was a special experience to visit the various buildings and there was even an ice bar where you could buy a hot or cold drink and have it inside a solid ice building. We did not try the onsen on the lake... More

As a person who spend most of the time in tropical countries, this place is very different world for me :) A must visit if you have time to spare during winter time while visiting Hokkaido. Tips: There are free bus from Obihiro Bus station nearby the JR Obihiro station to go to the lake :)

Here is nothing, but here is everything. Nature, beautiful scenery,no artificial lights, starting sky. If U will visit to Japan,it's one of the best choice.

Highly recommended for family with small kids. Kids can enjoy delightful encounters with natural creatures like fox, chipmunks, crayfish, ducks, and so many insects while adults can submerge themselves into the soul-cleansing atmosphere. Unfortunately, we went there on a cloudy/rainy day and couldn't see the stars at night. But it is known to be one of the best places in... More

Not a very large ice village, just a simple one, with a few igloos. Rather picturesque though, and we did not regret the drive up. the little town of Shikaoi at the foot of the mountain is also very pretty. The ice bar is pretty interesting, where we had our drinks in ice mugs. There is an outdoor onsen, but... More

During the Shikaribetsu kotan period (late January to early March), two outdoor hot spring tubs are set at the centre of the frozen lake. There are specific hours for mixed bath, men only bath and women only bath. During the mixed bath hours, you can wear your swimsuits. You just can't get any closer to the lake than bathing literally... More

Myself and a group of friends were staying in Asahikawa and thought we would give this place a visit as we had a rental car. In terms of the village on the lake there was the small igloos, the outdoor onsen and the ice bar. The ice bar was definitely worth having a look at and we also got some... More
