We walked from the village up to the deck and it was quite easy to do. Beautiful views out over the village below and of the surrounding area. Stunning photo opportunities! Just a suggestion but maybe do the deck first before you explore the village...More

Just take a bus from Takayama Bus Terminal (this is a better option than Kanazawa) for 4420¥ per pax (round trip). It takes around 50min one way to reach Shirakawago (80km away). Once you reach Shirakawa bus terminal, walk a bit (100m) to find the...More

This location provides the best view of Shirakawago valley. We went there on a December morning and was fortunate that it started to snow. The view was magnificent. There is also a souvenir shop next to the lookout point as well as toilets. It was...More

This simply has the best view of Shirakawa-go. Don't skip this stop, it's a quick 5 minute drive from the parking lot. Plenty of parking, more shops and great pictures.

It's a great view point for Shirakawago. 30 minutes walking from village. But you can go by car or bus from village only 200 yen per person.

Well worth the hike to this observation point to overlook the village and see how it sits in the landscape. Great views. If the hike is too daunting there is a shuttle bus (small fee) from the village. We shuttled up and walked down, which...More

GPS guided us this route but guy at the bottom was turning everyone around. Obviously there is a problem with the signs. Ended up parking at the bottom and spending an hour walking to this place. Still wondering how the other cars got up there.

Beautiful place to see if you are passing by as the journey took us about 2 hrs by car from Gifu station.

Hi, I'm planning s holiday trip to shirakawago sometime in September or October (or November) . I'd like to have a look at the nice golden paddy field before harvest time or the festival sometime in October. I can only choose either one. Which one is better ? And if I opt for the view of the paddy field, would sometime between 20-25 September be ok? I like cool weather so I'm trying to time it in such a way I can enjoy the nice cooler weather and the view at the same time . Might get to shirakawa via takayama. Any recommendations for nice resto with Hida beef? That is reasonably priced of course ;P

Rice is being planted in the fields at this time of the year and experiencing lush green paddy fields is guaranteed in late spring
Hi I am visiting Shirakawago in June and was wondering if I can drive up to the observatory deck? Also is there public parking located inside or outside the village? Thanks!

Hi, we went in April and were able to drive up to the Observatory Deck. Ample parking space in there.
Hi, Christine Thank you for the tips. I will be going to Shirakawago next month. May I ask, I will coming from Kanazawa bus. Is the bus station near the observatory deck? Are there many areas and things to see up there besides the awesome view of the village? Any photos of the deck? Thanks May

The observatory deck is about a 1 to 2km hike away from the bus stop. About half of this hike will take you out of the village. I would recommend taking a taxi around the back of the hill where the observation deck is... More
