If you are visiting the straw-roofed village, this provides the best overall view of the area. Seeing so many of these structures is amazingly beautiful.

The view's great, as you'd expect from a lookout. There's a shuttle to get you there, but if you're in okay shape you could walk up in half an hour easily. There's some vending machines up the top.

This offered me my first sighting of Shirakawago and it was an impressive one, would absolutely recommend getting up to this observation deck

Bus ride from Takayama to Shirakawa is also roughly an hour one way.
