Tour was recommended by a staff member at our hotel. We rented a vehicle and drove ourselves. Roads were well signed. Price included typical Costa Rican lunch in beautiful 150 year old hacienda. Lunch was followed by a tour with one guide for 2 people. Took approximately 1 hourbto complete. Learned several facts about sugar cane production from the past... More

Went on boat tour down the river and saw many wild animals. River boat driver was great and pointed out many hidden animals to which we pulled up close to. This included crocodiles, monkeys, and birds - even a Toucan. Iguanas were common great bird watching. Back at the lunch place other animals like iguana and sheep.

Great tour to see Crocs, birds and much more. We arrived at 8:30 am and were first people to arrive. Easy to find, well marked! Kevin was our guide on boat and was amazing! Smart educated and an eagle eye! We saw more crazy looking birds than I knew existed! We all loved it. Lunch afterwards was an authentic Tico... More

We went there from Playa Panama with our own car. Arrived at 8.30 and were welcomed with fruits and coffee! We were lucky to have a private boat with our great guide Kevin and his captain Miguel! As we were the first boat of the morning there was lots of activity of birds crocodiles monkeys lizards iguanas etc! Kevin and... More

My husband and I drove in our rental car to El Viejo from Potrero, which took about 1 hour 20 minutes. NB you really need a 4wd for the last 14km or so. We had booked the 9am boat tour, as in the current hot weather we prefer tours earlier in the morning, both for our own comfort and to... More

Take the time to visit this special place. The major attraction is the river tour, during which you can see wildlife that inhabits the wetlands: egrets, blue herons, bats, iguanas, crocodiles, and monkeys. We saw only howler monkeys, spaced out in trees after getting high on their meal of leaves. Others have seen Chauchin monkeys as well. Kevin, our guide,... More

Went there with a group of friends. We first went on the Tempisque river boat tour. It is amazing how many birds, crocodiles and iguanas we saw. We even were able to howler and white-faced monkeys. Then we went for lunch to the Casona, a beautifully preserved old farmhouse. The food was outstanding. Great fish ceviche. Very well prepared black... More

Absolutely fantastic day out. We made our own way there and only did the boat trip (there are several others activities possible including a Coffee Tasting session). The staff are fantastic. Very knowledgable about the history, local area and most importantly wildlife. We were lucky enough to get a boat to ourselves and we saw Crocodile's, Howler Monkeys, Egrets, Ospreys,... More

This was an unplanned visit to El Viejo. We were actually looking for the Palo Verde National park adjacent to the El Viejo reserve when we ran into this. We got lost and ended up here. What a pleasant surprise! Sooo glad we got lost :) We were greeted by Tiffany and she informed us of the different tours they... More
