The flight of 16 locks and the surrounding area, including the Limekilns, provide a fascinating window into our industrial past. The surviving infrastructure includes warehouses that the boats could sail into, evidence of the horse-drawn heritage and impressive civil engineering to create this flight of locks and the nearby aqueduct. That they nestle within a valley rich in mature beech... More

We have a narrowboat and are fair weather sailors which means that we are on the water predominently in the late spring/summer/early autumn. But the rest of the year we walk and enjoy the cooler temperatures and the changes they bring to this fascinating, historical and picturesque part of Stockport. A visit to Marple's adjacent Memorial Park is also very... More

As I live close to these locks and walk past them regularly. It's worth a trip on a Sunday afternoon especially in the summer watching the canal boats going through the many locks.

Decided to go for a stroll here one evening to relax from my business trip. What a peaceful place! Beautiful scenery. Only issue would be the dogs.... I have a terrible phobia of dogs and discovered a lot of little furry friends around off their leads. Something I got over because of how beautiful the scenery is

My husband and I regularly walk down the flight of locks in Marple. We see a lot of dog walkers, young families, couples like us and mountain bikers... It's always fun to watch a canal boat pass through a lock too!

We spent Christmas and New Years at the Ring O Bells in Marple which is on the canal and 100 yards from the locks. Interesting to see the locks in operation.
