When you are driving towards Wakkanai if you choose root 106 you can see the mountain in the Rishiri island rising form the sea. The main trail from Oshidomari is rather easy and not extremely steep. I was at 4.45 am at the trailhead and 8 am at the top. Then descent by the smaller Kutsugata, more beautiful too but more difficult, mainly the traverse at the top. When you reach the road, at least one hour more for Kutsugata town. You can get... More

This mountain is the only reason to visit this island. It is climbable in a day if you start early and hustle. Climb only on a clear, sunny, windless day with not a cloud in the sky. Conditions here change extremely fast, so this mountain can become deadly in a hurry.
