I enjoyed the visit to the St. Peter's Canal as I have an interest in boats and have navigated my own boat through several lock systems. The grounds are well maintained so that it is pleasant stop to stretch your legs if travelling from Cape Breton to Halifax.
The main nautical interest for nautical types is that the relative heights of the sea and lake reveres with the tide so that there is very uncommon double lock system. The lock keepers are very friendly and take time to give a full explanation of the working of the .locks.
It is worth a 30 minute stop particularly if the weather is good

It's just another canal unless you get the history behind it then you realize the effort it took to construct it.

Park staff were friendly and very informative. They took the time to answer all of our questions while they worked to keep the canal running smoothly. We swan the canal as part of Nicolas Denys Days and that was an experience not to be missed!

Stopped in at this location for a quick view today. You can also see it from the main road, however worth parking and going to see it up close.
Quite impressive and recommend anyone stopping by.

We stopped to check this out. A very nice man came out and we talked for 20 minutes about the Locks and Lobster Fishing etc. You can walk right up and view the whole system easily. No it’s not something exciting just interesting is all. It was interesting too to hear the Lake is all Saltwater...so in essence it makes the east side a island of its own

My family had an enjoyable trip to the St. Peter's Canal a few weeks ago and had a fun day. The locks connect the Atlantic to the Bras d' Or lake and is also a border crossing. My grandson and granddaughter were able to do some fishing in the canal and the attendant told us how the locks work to raise the water or lower the boats. There is also an annual canal swim which happens mid August. People are allowed to swim the full length of the canal. We missed it by a few days.

The park attendant was very informative about the system and was very proactive. We had parked and just walked up to the Interpretive panels next to the locks and he came out of the park building and walks up to us to see if he could help us in any way. He was very informative and friendly. It was an interesting place to visit.
