Decorated arch at the far end of the town past the prison. Nicely preserved and decorated . An easy walk to view it and not too far

The Triumphal Arch is on the quiet Köztársaság street. The advantage of it that it is close to the Danube river and the downside is that it looks at the prison. That can even be considered symbolic, as Hungary was under the Habsburg rule for almost 400 years.
I found nothing special in it anyway. After all, it was prepared for Maria Theresa's visit to one of the members of the Habsburg dynasty who oppressed the Hungarians for centuries. Why respect, or to preserve it? On this basis, they could even honor the memory of Brezhnev or Stalin and put wreath onto their statues.

This arch, reminiscent of Rome, was built to honour the visit of Maria Teresa many years ago. But....it is on a quiet street in Vacs, so one would do a 'double take' when you see it. Very well kept and nicely painted.

The loveliest mid-October day with full sunshine and 23 degrees...we had our time to walk as much as we could. Ticked all other main visitor attractions, the cathedral, a few other churches, main square (March 15th Square) and on to the arch.
Spotted a fair bit away in the distance....and yes, there is a huge working prison on the left side of the road. Eeeek.... Still, once at the arch, the top decor can be seen, as the books say, Maria Terezia & Ferenc Jozsef II portraits...with some empirical eagles holding some chain of roses...very smart. The story goes that when Maria Terezia was visiting, she found out that the arch was built within a short soul of time and got panicked, gif off her cart and walked around it rather than go under it...all in 1764.

Only a five minute walk away from Március 15 tér, the main square in Vac and just passed the town's prison is the Triumphal Arch built in 1764 for the visit of the Hungarian Empress Maria Theresa to the town. The arch is in good condition, the road splits with a single lane running under the arch and another beside the arch.

Though this is on the list to see - don't go out of your way. It is what you see in the photos - and really nothing more. It is located next to a large prison adjacent to the Danube. Not a must see.

Another piece of Vac which is beautiful. If going to visit this, you would have walked by the huge prison.. We walked around the entire prison. Very interesting history there too. :)

There wasn't much traffic so I was able to use my tripod and take a time delayed photo with me in it!

It can be a great walk and when you are coming from the city it is not too far from the prison. Nice arch. But that's it.

The site is far away from the center. You are lost without a car. It is nice to take some photos there. Be careful of the traffic
