I’ve visited Los Naranjos Park twice, in Nov. 2021 and just last January, and I can thoroughly recommend a visit to this fine park. I’m not really a nature person myself, and I was probably unable to appreciate the many varieties of trees, plants, and birds on view, but I’m sure real nature lovers will. The park consists basically of two parts — first, a walking path through the forest, and then, as it gradually descends towards Lake Yojoa, a mash-land that you view from a long, long elevated boardwalk. (Note: a comment below, posted in 2018, and one of the pictures in the photo gallery, indicate some risky-looking damage in parts of the boardwalk. On my recent visit late last January [2023], I noted that those parts had been fixed.)

The Lenca ruins you’ll see will be rather humble; not the visual spectacles you’ll see in Copan, Tikal, etc. but they’re nonetheless authentic, and I, at least, did not have to share them with tourists other than my companions. Visit these remains, and you’ll be one of what I’m sure must be a tiny percentage of foreign tourists who have. And between the ruins and the site museum, this may be one of the few places where you will be able to learn about the ancient Lenca civilization, which most classic textbooks on the ancient Americas overlook.

A visit to this park can make for an enjoyable, laid-back day, especially if combined with a visit to one of the friendly bars just up the main road from the entrance, or to Ivo’s charming coffee and pastry cafe, a short walk in the other direction.

Ended up spending half a day here as there was so much to see and learn - the museum and the walkway through the park to learn about the history of the area but also see the dozens and dozens of ornate, tropical birds.

Los Naranjos Park has set of trails with views of Lago Yojoa and Cerro Azul Meambar National Park. The park includes protected marshland, Lenca ruins, museum and rich biodiversity of plants, trees, birds and reptiles. Trails are well marked and maintained.

There was a small museum to view a few artifacts. The tower you can climb overlooks a cornfield. Most of the pathways are not even accessible. We had to walk down a muddy trail and not really much to see. You do end up at the end with a hanging bridge that does have a beautiful view but you can see views like this all over the area.

Went here from the D&D brewery nearby. The walk through the park with the ruins was ok and there was some interesting birds and a viewing tower to get to canopy level. The boardwalk was accessible but a section of about 100m is now dangerous and out of bounds. The lake is beautiful and we went on a dawn bird watching trip on it which was awesome - this was organised through the D&D brewery again.

We had a good outing of birding at the park but were disappointed to discover that the boardwalk was broken and unsafe to use. The boardwalk had been a great feature for accessing areas of the park but is now unusable. They charge an entrance fee. Sure would be nice if they would use some of that money to rebuild the boardwalk.

This small park offers a lot for wildlife enthusiasts. Plenty of birds to see in the area, and reptiles if you're patient and have a keen eye. The park is basic and the boardwalk was in rough shape in some parts, but it's definitely worth a visit and I encourage everyone to stop in (if they get enough visitors maybe they can afford to fix the boardwalk).

Nature walks and hikes in Honduras tend to be strenuous due to the mountain terrain, but this is not the case here. The large boardwalk is currently closed due to being in a state of disrepair. Great place to watch and listen to birds.
