This is a very lovely area where Honduras/Nicaragua and El Salvador come together. The operators of the boats wait for tourists at the far end of the food court in Familia Park. Price depends on the number in your party. We paid 75.00 for 2 people but we were able to dictate the duration of the trip. The view of the islands is really amazing and they take you to a private beach where you can swim with no surf or eat/drink in one of the local restaurants. Very good and reasonable I recommend this adventure.

We went for lunch at a nice restaurant in Punta Jaguey, located in Gulf of Fonseca. From there you have great views of the Pacific (El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua). This is a spot you don’t wanna miss while in La Union.

If you plan to travel from El Salvador to Nicaragua you can book a boat tour and cross the Gulf of Fonseca from La Union to Potosi with bus connection to Leon/San Salvador.
Fast and beautiful - the best connection - highly recommended.

Spent the day visiting Meangura del Golfo and Isla Zacatillo. A local man from La Union operated the lancha we took from the coast. He was very nice and professional. First stop was Meanguera del Golfo. Small community of people live on this island complete with a little courthouse and a very tiny park. There is a hotel on Meangura del Golfo we stopped at to possibly eat lunch. It was clean and they apparently have 4 rooms for rent. We ended up having lunch at a beach side restaurant on Isla Zacatillo. This was a good way to experience the islands off the coast of La Union. There is a market near the pier with local vendors selling everything from hammocks to plants.

We crossed the border from Nicaragua to San Salvador (potosi to la Union) on a small boat through gulf of fonesca. Entire trip is about two hours. The experience was unforgettable- great views, real life people, no tourists. If you go from Nicaragua better arrange a boat in advance.

A boat ride along the gulf and round a couple of islands. The air is balmy and it’s blissful watching the pelicans doing cargo plane impressions, skimming across the water and the odd osprey swooping above them. The water is warm for swimming and there’s a hammock on the sandy beach. What more could you want?

We also arranged an excursion by boat with the local guide we contacted through the touist office. He took us to an island where we could have lunch (fresh fish prepared to order) after going for a nice walk with him. It enabled us to talk to the locals as well.

You can see the gulf from many points. I will suggest a couple:
a) la familia park in La Union city is a nice place to take pictures and look around at sea level
b) Beaches: (Las tunas or Playas negras) You can go to a restaurant or hotel and enjoy the sunbathing or the sea.
c) Hotel Comfort Inn: Located in a small hill has a nice view
d) Mirador de Conchagua: Beautiful views from the Conchagua Volcano, you can see some of the islands in the gulf.

Hi. There are various options but I haven't booked online. You may want to recheck in google: "tours en golfo de fonseca", I found a couple there. I would also recommend if not that you do it at the front desk of the hotel where you will see various options.
