We pulled in to the parking lot to look at this column. We just happened to be driving past it and wanted to see what it was. The carvings were very neat but there wasn't any info to tell us anything about why it was...More

We stayed at the Hotel Elvester and it's a very interesting place. The owners have saved this column when no one else wanted it. It's a good thing. Impressive. The hotel is loaded with art work worth a walk around.

On our trip from Lom to R55 Sognefjellet we made a short stop here. Impressive column with intriguing artwork. However we saw no information panel that gave us a hint on what it means and why or when it was erected here.

The column is beautiful. Strangely I hadn't heard of it when I planned the trip. Its worth the stop. If you have time try to get a close look when you're there, I could not find images online showing the entire story.

This Column was started in the mid18th century - but not finished until after WWII. more than 1000 years of Norwegian history can be seen on the 33 meter high column. Why it is placed by a local (beautiful) farm in the middle of Norway,...More
