One of the top twenty in Simon Jenkins's book 'England's Thousand Best Houses'. Idyllically set in the heart of an ancient deer park, below the South Downs, the Elizabethan house contains an important collection of needlework, paintings and furniture. The spectacular Long Gallery is the third longest in England. The gardens include a four-acre Walled Garden with stunning herbaceous borders, plus Pleasure Grounds. Parham has always been a well-loved family home, and only three families have lived here since its foundation stone was laid in 1577. Its tranquillity and timeless beauty have changed little over the years. Now owned by a charitable trust, the house is lived in by Lady Emma Barnard, her husband James and their family. Open from Easter Sunday until the end of October. Please see the website for days and times.

Check opening times before you go. Very nice visit to the gardens which had some fabulous tulips. The cafe is small and was crowded quickly, not a big choice but very nice food. Impressive house and some very good pictures and furniture. Super floral displays. Good parking and nice walks

A lovely countryside location dating back to Elizabethan times. The house is very interesting and the gardens picturesque to wonder around. There are refreshments available.

Arrived on the first day of opening. Very very warm welcome from staff throughout the building who were very enthusiastic without being OTT. I'm not a great one for historic houses but my interest was constant throughout, the house just felt like a home with beautiful paintings and lots more. Not stuffy just perfect. Lovely grounds and FANTASTIC walled garden.... More

Visited here on the recommendation of the owners of the holiday cottage we were staying in and were not disappointed. We took advantage of the dry weather and visited the gardens first and they were lovely, still full of colour for the time of year and obviously well tended. The glasshouse plants were amazing! Ater a spot of lunch (again,... More

Beautiful rolling landscape. Fabulous house with some unique features. Lovely gardens which holds fetes and fairs at various times of the year. Dogs allowed on leads in the grounds but not in the house. Small and restricted cafe. Somewhat officious volunteer parking attendant who seemed to delight in making people move from place to place, largely unnecessarily but much to... More

Parham house and gardens must have been quite astonishing at some time in the past, but it very much looks like after getting prices and nominations years ago the owners were only interested in earning as much money with it as possible, while spending as little as possible for keeping it in a proper state. Plants in the garden haven't... More

We visited The Autumn Fair on Saturday and had a fabulous 4 hour stay. Themed for the Elizabethan era with suitably costume dressed performers and staff, the whole day was a delight. The gardens are for us the best bit with something new for each season. The house is beautiful as are the artefacts and paintings but I would recommend... More

On a beautiful sunny day we spent a lovely day at Parham starting off with the working horses demonstration followed by a Falconry display by very informative presenters. The cookery demo has inspired me to follow in Rosemary Moon's footsteps making full use of seasonal produce. The wines on offer from Stopham vineyard were delightful as was the coffee and... More

I've been led to Parham House by a native English and it proved to be a jewel for a person who loved English Heritage, like me. You cannot missi it: the house is awesome, as weel as the garden. I loved it.
