Snow fell a couple of days after we drove this Pass in mid Sept but we had it very easy on great roads in summer conditions. Wide road with well executed bends, nothing narrow or scary at all.Very safe.I liked the scenery here much better than the St Gottard Pass albeit we had better weather on the Grimsel route.
We drove this Pass travelling from Grindelwald to Zermatt and I d say it’s a must do drive.
Lovely villages on each side of the Pass too especially along the Rhone Valley side.Quite a few ancient villages too with traditional farm building architecture, worth a stop,
Great mountain scenery on both sides of the Pass an very different to the rest of the Alps overall.I loved how open the views were across the lake at the summit too, revealing a very beautiful landscape in tawny autumn colours.
A couple of hotels at the top but don’t miss a short detour to Hospiz hotel where there are more fine views to be had.
There are Marmots in a small enclosure near the Alpenrosli restaurant( we had a decent lunch here…good atmosphere)
Very impressive area overall.

We had no idea we'd drive through this pass, which made it all the more fun. We were driving from Täsch to Interlaken and were stopped by the police just before the pass, so they could check our tires. We had no idea why they did that, until we started climbing and seeing all the hairpin curves. The place is so beautiful, so scenic. If you like driving and vistas, you'll love it. If you're afraid of heights and don't enjoy curves, you'll hate it

easy to cross with any vehicle. Excellent choice of restaurants (particularly Grimsel Hospiz and Grimsel Pass) and hiking opportunities

Swiss mountain passes each with beautiful views, every bend is one too look forward
There are some hotels on the top as well. We loved it so much that we drove the same route in the evening for different sky colours

We were going from Lauterbrunnen to Lugano, and decided to take mountain passes to get there.
Spectacular views, with some unusual green colors on the hillsides. A fun ride if you enjoy narrow twisty roads high in the mountains. Saw waterfalls, snow, and in many parts water was dripping very close to the road, so be careful.
Also, check if the pass is open before going. Even if there is no snow, it can be closed due to the fog.

I have always wanted to drive this pass. Just my luck that there was low cloud and poor visibilty. But it was all clear at the top looking down on a cloud-filled valley. Once at the top, its well worth paying 5 francs to drive up to Berghaus Oberaar and view two glaciers.

A challenging ride however hugely rewarding as the views from the top are spectacular. Allow time on both sides and the top as worth the effort.
