Amazing animals up close!

The woman who owned the place was very nice. She gave us a tour and let us hang out for a bit after. There are a lot of animals there that I've never seen in the wild or at zoos... read more

Owner provides good commentary on wildlife. Worth going at feeding times. Entrance fee allows you to return in evening (see nocturnal animals). Nice to see La Selva provides refuge for some endangered species

The woman who owned the place was very nice. She gave us a tour and let us hang out for a bit after. There are a lot of animals there that I've never seen in the wild or at zoos. If you go in the middle of the day she says you can come back at dusk and not have... More

$20 per person was not worth the very small backyard refuge. I definately appreciate what this couple is wanting to accomplish and the guide (wife) was very kind. The refuge was a place to see a few animals we probably wouldn't see otherwise, but only about 10 different species total in a small crowded setting. It would be worth the... More

We visited the refuge because although we have been on a number of nature excursions on our trip the animals are difficult to spot in the wild. We saw a good number of animals ( see the pics) and the owner told us about them- our particular favourite was the nocturnal honey bear. Recommend that you plan your visit close... More

Personally guided thru zoo by proprietor who was very knowledgeable. All animals looked well cared for with full water bowls, all looked well fed, they had good sized cages, and had lots of shade. The owner obviously cared a great deal for all the animals.

A friend and I stopped in here on a whim and because we love wildlife. Overall we were impressed with this place. The animals appear well cared for, given that the woman running the refuge receives no support other then the entrance fees and donations. Most of the enclosures seemed small, however given that the hope is to return the... More

This is a small project run pretty much by one woman on her own - a remarkable refuge for local wild animals found injured or abandoned. Her aim is to look after them and then, where possible, release them back into the wild. Perhaps inevitably some of them are kept in relatively small enclosures. It was very good to be... More

A lovely little refuge owned by an elderly couple who have dedicated their lives to caring and rehabilitating wild animals. We first had a guided tour by the lady who explained about every animal and how they got there. We had to look out for some spiderwebs but quickly learnt that they are crab spiders and not harmful. The owner was... More

I was disappointed with the trip we took to come to this place, I am highly suspect of how much rehabilitation happens here. This to me was a zoo in a lady's back yard, while I'm sure she cares quite a lot for the animals it didn't seem as though there was much released back to the wild. For $20... More
